ArHaN Finally Able to Play in the Overwatch League With New Work Visa DBLTAP Philip Salamon 28 MAY 2018 Won-hyeop "ArHaN" Jeong will be eligible to finally play for the Houston Outlaws in the Overwatch League ever since his signing in late March. ArHan was unable to play for the team during that time, as his work visa was not yet approved. ArHaN joined the Outlaws as a DPS player and is widely regarded for his incredible Genji and Tracer play. ArHaN was a member of the South Korean team that ended up winning the Overwatch World Cup against Russia, alongside Outlaws coach Tae-yeong "TaiRong" Kim. ArHaN was not the only player from South Korea who had problems with getting visa approval. Shanghai Dragons players Kim "Geguri" Seyeon, Lee "Fearless" Euiseok, Chon "Ado" Gihyeon, and He "Sky" Junjian all faced delays in acquiring their visas. His visa was approved in time for him to play in the third week of Stage 4 of the Overwatch League. Overwatch League Finals Sell Out in Two Weeks Esports Observer Trent Murray Jun 1, 2018 Tickets to the Overwatch League Grand Finals have officially sold out. More than 20,000 fans will attend the live finals at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in July. Overwatch League commissioner Nate Nanzer said: “We knew the Overwatch League had amazing, enthusiastic fans, but this is something else. We’re incredibly excited to play to a packed house at one of the world’s premier sports and entertainment arenas. With the help of our broadcast team, our partners, and Barclays Center, we’re going to put on a first-class show for everyone in attendance, and for the millions more who will be watching online.” Tickets for the Grand Finals went on sale on Friday, May 18, meaning it took exactly two weeks for Blizzard Entertainment to sell out the Barclays Center. By contrast, tickets for the 2017 League of Legends World Championships at the Beijing National Stadium—which has an 80,000-person capacity—sold out in less than a minute. Both League of Legends and Dota 2 historically sell through the tickets for their largest events in a manner of minutes, not days. In 2015, the first wave of tickets for Dota 2’s The International 5 at the 17,000-seat KeyArena were sold out within five minutes. League of Legends famously sold out the 15,000-seat Staples Center in under an hour back in 2013. In fairness, the OWL is still in its first year of existence, while both LoL and Dota 2 have had years to cultivate their esports audience. The first League of Legends championship and the first TI were both part of larger events: DreamHack and Gamescom respectively. That said, the Overwatch League Grand Finals carry the same weight to Overwatch esports as The International or the League of Legends World Championship—at the end of the event, the game will crown its world champion. Based on these metrics, as well as the league’s declining viewership, it seems that the OWL still has some work to do before its grand finals can be favorably compared to the biggest international esports events of the year.
