Most people think the The Beatles' "White Album" should be shortnened. So, if you had to shorten the White Album to 10-15 songs, what would you keep and why? Here's my list: 1) Back in the USSR - great starting song. A surf rock jam. 2) Dear Prudence - A beautiful song, love it. 3) While My Guitar Gently Weeps - an obvious pick. 4) Happiness Is a Warm Gun - so odd, yet so undeniable. 5) Martha My Dear - I don't know why I like this one. I just do. 6) Blackbird - best song on the whole album in my opinion. 7) Julia - another beautiful song like Dear Prudence. 8) Yer Blues - gritty and soulful. 9) Helter Skelter - pure rock. 10) Revolution 1 - a solid song, not great but certainly not bad. 11) Good Night - great closer. What's your list?
Oh. Well, I have actually listened through the whole album many times, and I personally feel that at 30 songs, a lot of the songs weren't good enough to warrant a double album. I think it could have easily been a single, normal album. I'm just asking if you had to shorten it to make it a single album, what would you keep and why?
I hardly understand the Beatles. I just don't get the infatuation with this group. And it isn't like I can't listen to odd music. I LOVE Townes Van Zandt, but I've yet to hear any Beatles song that gives me chills like Townes Tower Song. I just don't get the Beatles.
I just love the way they can make different genres of music and make a cohesive album. They had blues songs, Indian songs, Psychedelic songs, some Country songs, some hard rock. Just a little bit of everything.
what? it's great as it is still need to listen to the whole discography but i especially enjoyed this song from yellow sub. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LtjhW-ERoak" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Pretty good. I would axe Revolution 1 (we already have the vastly superior Revolution single version) and Good Night for Ob-la do ola la da and Sexy Sadie. I also think you could add a few more songs and still be single album (most Beatle albums are 14 songs) so I would also add I'm so tired rocky raccoon and the continuing story of bungalow bill.
Yeah, I was debating Rocky Raccoon. I didn't know if it was seem a little redundant considering I had already listed Yer Blues, but I see your point.
Suddenly your "I love being boring" thread makes a whole lot more sense. This is the equivalent of someone saying "I don't understand why people think Michael Jordan was a good basketball player."
I don't get people who don't get The Beatles. It's mind-blowing to me how someone with ears and any degree of musical-rhythmic intelligence doesn't "get" the Beatles. Take Frank Sinatra. Never bought one album of his. If a song of his comes on the radio, I'm going to change it. Probably will never buy an album from Frank Sinatra. Yet, sit me down in a room, tell me if I think other people would like his music, and I'd say, "well, of course. People who like easy listening, big band, pleasant-voiced singers would love this guy, because the melodies sound good even if they're not my personal favorite."
To be fair, George Martin, the Beatles producer, wanted to shorten it to a single album, at 15 songs. I agree with him, do songs like "Honey Pie" or "Piggies" or "Long, Long, Long" really warrant an album of that length?
Because it had too much self indulgent filler. Songs in bold would be included. Disc One: Back in the USSR Dear Prudence Glass Onion Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Wild Honey Pie The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill While My Guitar Gently Weeps Happiness is a Warm Gun Martha My Dear I'm So Tired Blackbird Piggies Rocky Raccoon Don't Pass Me By Why Don't We Do It In the road? I Will Julia Disc Two: Birthday Yer Blues Mother Nature's Son Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey Sexy Sadie Helter Skelter Long, Long, Long Revolution 1 Honey Pie Savoy Truffle Cry Baby Cry Revolution 9 Good Night
I would remove all the suffering people, they become redundant and only reflect Picasso's self indulgence.
Disc One: Back in the USSR Dear Prudence Glass Onion Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Wild Honey Pie The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill While My Guitar Gently Weeps Happiness is a Warm Gun Martha My Dear I'm So Tired Blackbird Piggies Rocky Raccoon(only if it was an absolute necessity) Don't Pass Me By Why Don't We Do It In the road? I Will Julia Disc Two: Birthday Yer Blues Mother Nature's Son Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey Sexy Sadie Helter Skelter Long, Long, Long Revolution 1 Honey Pie Savoy Truffle Cry Baby Cry Revolution 9 Good Night The only songs I could see removing are the ones I've bolded. I chose those primarily because they have been overplayed. So that may not be something a band would want to take off of an album. I will add that taking these songs off or any songs off doesn't make the album better. It's much better the way it is now. However, those are the songs that I never listen to anymore, and probably don't ever need to hear again.
I don't understand. D you want the album split into 2 so you have to pay twice, or do you think some of the songs suck so bad that they shouldn't be on an album. Edit. It's like having regular sex with a supermodel and complaining that she brought her "solid 8" friend over to join in the fun.
