Houston would have received Pau Gasol from the Lakers

New Orleans would have received Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Goran Dragic and a first round pick from the Rockets and Lamar Odom from the Lakers

Los Angeles would have received Chris Paul from New Orleans

If this happened would the Lakers still be dominant in todays NBA, Would NO be a playoff team and would Pau Gasol really help the Rockets.

Well, I don't think NO would have sucked enough to be able to draft Anthony Davis so I think they actually lose that trade.

I know it isn't popular to say because of the Harden acquisition, but I still believe that trade could have worked out for the Rockets. It's impossible to know what dominoes would have fallen in what way after that, but a frontcourt of Gasol and Nene would have been a great start.

A team featuring Gasol and Nene would be infinitely more watchable and likable than what we have now. Hard to say if they'd win more.

    Eric Gordon
    Al-Farouq Aminu
    Chris Kaman
    2012 1st round pick(Austin Rivers)
(and I guess unoffically Anthony Davis)

    vs

    Goran Dragic
    Kevin Martin
    Lamar Odom
    Luis Scola
    First round pick

No doubt the Lakers are better (than what they are/got today)
    Gasol leaves the Rockets eventually
And the Hornets are about the same(outside of the playoffs--9th/10th seed--looking in)

    Lowry
    Lee
    Parsons
    Nene
    Gasol

Would have been our lineup. Morey went on record saying he still could have gotten the harden trade done, so who knows how all the dominoes would have fallen.

nene was injured that year right? then gasol being a malcontent and pulling an asik with us, which means we accidentally lose 60 games and draft... anthony davis. chandler never leaves and howard is acquired in free agency.

    Lowry
    Lee
    Parsons
    Davis
    Howard.

not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7, not 8 but at least 9 2nd round appearances for our rockets with that line up. =)

Why does everyone seem to assume that Chris Paul and Kobe would be happy co-existing as ball dominating alphas on the same team? Kobe presumably still gets injured for the past 2 seasons. Sure their ceiling would be higher, but no guarantees that Chris Paul doesn't leave instead of extend with the Lakers.

There is a possibility NO is bad enough to still get Anthony Davis in the draft if the trade went through. Scola was fading fast, Martin seems to be unhappy without Rick, and LO became a ghost.

who knows what else would happen if this trade went through would the Lakers be that much better off? Odom and Gasol were probably the best and most versatile 1-2 punch in the league -- and this is not even bringing Bynum into the equation.

Of course if this trade went through I highly suspect that the Howard for Bynum/pick swap probably would have been veto'ed or would have had far far more outcry if it still occurred. No way of knowing if that deal still gets done. Also considering the personality of all 3 of those players - how would chemistry even be? Howard already left because Kobe was a complete jackass and he would never truly be the face of the franchise until Kobe retired (something he was promised coming to LA) - Same with Paul - I dont think he would be able to co-exist with Kobe. Paul needs the ball constantly and dominates the entire offense -- granted he runs it ridiculously well but Kobe would not have any of that sooner or later.

In hindsight its easy to say the Lakers got screwed the most since the Hornets "got lucky" and got the #1 pick and Davis and the Rockets ended up making the move for Harden and eventually signed Dwight and the Lakers are a mess right now. But there is no guarantee that both Paul and Dwight would not leave when their contracts up if things still played out the way they did between Kobe and those two. Kobe has shown historically he has not done well when he has had other alpha male superstars on his team - now magically he would be able to coexist with two of them? I don't believe that one bit.

If Paul liked Howard and played well together, Kobe might not have gotten that ridiculous contract while nursing his injuries.

Would Donald Sterling still own the Clippers?

If they were still the abysmal team they've always been, would anyone have cared about his comments?

the lakers would still make the trade for dwight. dwight would stay since cp3 would make sure he got the ball. lakers would've been dangerous even without kobe, but this year would probably be the favorites for the title.

the rockets would've held on to lowry and gasol since they are the closest thing to stars that morey could find. he claims he still could've traded for harden. and he wouldnt have had to let parsons out of the contract early to sign dwight. we would've looked like:

    gasol-nene
    jones
    parsons
    harden
    lowry-bev

i think we would go hard after marc gasol this summer. would probably have to trade parsons with nene to get out of nene's contract.
