How do you feel about Harden as the current franchise player and the Rockets building around him?

None of the above. Harden is important for us, but he is not an alpha player.
We need a leader, and better role players. If he can buy into it, that will be great for us.

 

Not good at all, because we don't have a strong professional organisation with an owner who will accept a team with great role players around him and who does not want to give good coaches a shot. Harden not being a leader makes this worse. The star whoring in Houston needs to stop and we need changes from top to bottom before we can ever be a team focused on playing the right way, stop the 3pt barrage and go back to defense.

I believe that we can build a great, championship contending around James Harden. It may take a while. Perhaps, even onto his third contract with us (already played through one and is on his second,) but it's no reason to give up on him honestly. You just need to find the perfect fit and mix of players that combine IQ, defense, shooting, and passing. They all don't to be elite at those skills, but they are key components of being a championship contending team.

I feel like we are currently in a rebuilding phase at the moment, last year (due to other games going in our favour) managed to sneak into second. We didn't have an amazing year and we didn't have a bad year. This year we are more on the verge of being a bad year unless we can turn this arounds pretty quickly (can't see this happening unless our chemistry dramatically improves). I feel like with a couple of deals going our way and coaching staff changes, next year or the year after we will be well along our way up the conference

 

Great piece to build with or build around

Those are 2 different notions

I think we can build around him but we need better teammates than if we picked Durant as No1.

 

He's a Championship winning player no doubt about it but he can't win alone. Either you pair him with another superstar that's even better than him or surround him an elite supporting cast like the Warriors have done for Curry.

He needs an awakening like dream had in 92-93. Of course he needs a good system to buy in to like Rudy T had waiting for dream.

 

Harden is great, we need upgrade the rest of the team

 

he is a cornerstone but we need a foundation guy. A dream, timmy or big yao type of player that dominates on both ends.

 

So far he's been a great #1 option 3/4 years. I'd say 75% is pretty good thus far. We will need SEVERAL more negative trending seasons to prove anything against Harden being your best player.

However we might just get one more before they have to start guaging his upcoming free agency. So he gets at least another year before we need to decide our future in looking for another #1. Harden is our guy for another season like it or not.

TEAM culture and leadership however there is no question we should look at major changes. You don't necessarily need a new #1 to upgrade leadership and culture. One or two Battier's and Scola's and a new respected coach might made a world of difference.
