What a great read, Jeff! A column right on target. Not only did I enjoy it, but I wish you would uncork these beauties on a more regular basis here at the BBS, and not "limit" yourself to the excellent Houston Press.

Good read indeed. Agreed with all points.

 

Good column. That's a very good point about the Rockets beating the teams they're supposed to beat(emphasis on BEATING). Even the title teams(especially the 1994-95 one) would routinely play down to the competition. That 2nd title team lost to the freaking Clippers which is probably what finally motivated Rudy and CD to admit that roster as constructed was not gonna win it again.

 

Excellent article with (in my uneducated opinion) one big omission:

These Rockets believe they will win every game. Down 20...meh. Against the "best" team in league history...meh. They know that the 18-0 run could come in any 3 minute span, so they just contentedly keep doing what they do until it happens.

Probably the Atlanta game around first week of November. Seem to recall the Hawks opened up a lead
in the 3rd qrt as the Rockets looked tired.....Rockets got hot from 3 in the 4th; but Hawks matched us.

The rockets bench is among the top 4 (together with GS, Cavs, Toronto & the Spurs) in most advanced offensive statistics.
#2 in offensive rating
#4 in Net rating
#3 in TS%
Eric Gordon is phenomenal without Harden as the primary points maker with 29 points per 36 minutes when Harden is on the bench.

The boost the bench unit gives us is one big force that we can see all of the top teams have. It's a must in the leauge these days.

Too true. Last season it felt like we had double digit losses in the first 5 games.
