So I have had a few interviews in the past. I interviewed for 2 jobs after I graduated, but decided to take a restaurant job to allow flexibility for my Mid East trip. I am currently a part time employee of the State of Texas, and I intern for a legislator. My chief of staff asked for my resume yesterday for Session jobs. I sent it to him this morning and he just sent me an email saying to meet him for an interview at 4. I am having a mini panic attack because I don't know what I am going to say, or how I am going to sound. Any advice? TIA
I got some good advice a couple months ago when I was interviewing. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=216131
serious reply, be confident even when you dont know the answer dont be afraid to say that you dont know, think before you speak, dont just answer an answer to give an answer, dont be afraid to ask him questions about the job, be relaxed theya re asking to speak with you because they feel you have something they want to consider hiring
He came to YOU and asked for YOUR resume. Act like your hiring him and make sure the job is a good fit for you
I have an interview this coming Thursday as well lol. Wasn't nervous until I read the link to another thread.
Is 15 minutes too short of an interview? I was so nervous, felt like I was rambling, but we shared some laughs about Texas politics. Good news is he said they may know by Friday.
I have been an intern in this office since Jan. btw. What my long term and short term goals were What my strengths and weaknesses were What I admired about politicians What I didn't What I would do in a situation where my personal beliefs are different from the Senator's What I thought the main issues of next session would be Which issues were of importance to me What I enjoy about politics What I don't My past work experience How that will help me with this job and others My educational background These are by no means the order he asked, or how he asked, just kind of throwing out what I can remember. I blacked out...jk At the end he told me about the job, it's basically what a lot of what I do now as an intern. Then he asked if there was a min pay I was looking for, when my other job ended (I work at the Capitol part time), and that if I was hired on for session there was a chance I could be asked to be on full staff and if I would be interested in that... Then he was like I can get you around $xxxx a month, will that work? Maybe a little more, we'll see what we can do...so I felt that was kind of a good sign (I didn't ask for the pay info)
Well since you've been working there already they pretty much have a good feel for you and sounds like you're their person for the job. And I second Jontro asked. Lol.
lol way more than I make now, but that's not saying much cause I work 20hrs at min wage, but actually work 45 hrs (25 at internship)... Good news...got the job, was totally not expecting to get the offer the next day...i was so shocked i didnt know what to say, and he was like ughh are you on board? and i was like ughhh ya! im ecstatic! thanks for the advice now i can afford to pay my debts...
Haha ya riiiightttt!!! That's too much responsibility. I like being the man behind the curtains. Which is essentially what I will be at this job.
If the interviewers ask you who's better? Kobe or Tracy McGrady, please answer Kobe cause I'd like to see you succeed in the real world.
