    Help me understand this, folks.

1.) Fire is set to a Mosque in Houston and one building is burned down.

2.) Although foul play is suspected and CAIR gets involved, no one in the local Islamic community gets overly emotional and resorts to violence or aggression. It is notable that the tragic murders in North Carolina occurred only a week ago.

3.) Hateful messages sent to the Mosque are met with kindness and patience.

    4.) No one riots.

5.) An arrest is made this morning when a suspect turns himself in, confirming previous suspicions.

    6.) No one riots.

7.) At another nearby Mosque, Christian neighbors reach out and show their support.

    8.) No one riots.

Meanwhile in Copenhagen, Germany and the rest of Europe...well, you don't need me to tell you...

US is a melting pot. Europe, not so much.

"The melting pot is a metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous, the different elements "melting together" into a harmonious whole with a common culture. It is particularly used to describe the assimilation of immigrants to the United States.[1]"

There is not much to understand. Its more about culture than religion. You will find that many foreigners who immigrate to the US are very grateful for the peace we do have.

I feel that can change if our government starts giving in and allowing religions of any sort to put their beliefs over the laws of the land. The US in general is not very tolerant of extremism.

Most American Muslims are probably not radicals like their counterparts in Europe.

The positive examples set forth by prominent Muslim leaders like Obama can have a profound effect on the flock.

Houston 's Muslims have united the city.
I can think of one in the 90s.

My guess would be that a lot of it has to do with how the USA is able to select immigrants (other than Mexican immigrants whose immigration is less controlled) based on level of education and prospective "usefulness" to society. In Europe, because of asylum laws and policy, for many, many years, pretty much everyone was allowed to immigrate, regardless of level of education and background. Moreover, politicians failed at preventing a ghettoization in many European countries.

So I would guess that the average American Muslim immigrant has a much higher level of education than the average European Muslim immigrant. That would certainly have to be one contributing factor.

Real question is: why are Houston Muslims different than other Muslims?

Wait ATW, are you asking why the US has more Mexican immigrants and Europe has more North African and Middle Eastern immigrants?

I would bet that that the Mexican immigrants to Germany and The UK are also more educated and affluent. Just a guess. :)
