DALLAS -- David Lee will officially become a member of the Dallas Mavericks on Monday.

Lee, a veteran power forward who cleared waivers after receiving a buyout from the Boston Celtics, has agreed to sign for the prorated portion of the Mavs' $2.1 million cap-room exception and arrived in Dallas on Sunday.

"We think he can play both big positions, some 4 and some backup 5," coach Rick Carlisle said. "I just think he's a quality veteran player who has been in a situation in Boston where they were overstocked and decided to go with some younger guys. We believe he can help us."

However, he fell out of the rotations for the Golden State Warriors and Celtics the last two seasons. He averaged 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game in his 30 appearances for Boston and hoped to find a bigger role on a playoff team after receiving his buyout.

"He's a smart player," Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki said. "He knows how to play. He can score around the basket, he's a good passer out of the post, he's a good rebounder, which sometimes we have issues with our rebounding, so he should help us there. I just think it's another solid veteran that wants to win."

The Mavs will waive reserve guard John Jenkins to create a roster spot for Lee, Carlisle said after the game.

He should have gone to the cavs. That would have been funnier.

Is the Mavs the Whitest team in the NBA? Is Mark Cuban the next Donald Sterling? They need Gordon Hayward and Kevin Love.
    Barea
    Parsons
    Hayward
    Love/Lee
    Nowitzki/Zaza

The mavs have 4 white players Parsons, Zaza, Lee, and Dirk (Barea is Puerto Rican) You either do not watch the NBA because nearly every team has around 3 or 4 white players or your just trying to create a racial debate over nothing at all. Just to make it easy for you I broke it down by team. This does not include anyone who is from a multi-racial family such as Blake or Klay. I am assuming you were trying to be cute or funny but of all the topics why race lol? It has no relevance to it at all. 16 Teams have 4 or more players that are white. Please do research or watch the sport before you spew ignorance or hateful comments such as calling Cuban a racist.

Nah not mad a bit hahaha but dont just throw stuff against the wall hoping it will stick without at least doing research....It took about 5 minutes to find it and something like race (especially the amount of race bating that is going on in the country today) should not be a throw around topic because it not only make you look stupid, but also make the forum you are presenting the ignorant statements on look bad. So in the end it was simply to show the poster that a little research goes a long way and to prevent any racial debate on this forum.

Good. Hopefully he and Dirk share max minutes together and we can P&R them to basketball death.

I think some can have the impression because Mavs is one of the only teams with a white dude as the face of the franchise - add to that the relatively irrelevant parsons who is more relevant to the demographic here.

Notice he's bringing up Love and Hayward, the other two on the short list of marquee level white players. Lee used to be a prominent name as well.

So as the "faces" of their teams, yes they do make the team appear more white than other teams who don't put white faces on the billboards as much.

Just saying this could lead to a certain perception. I don't believe teams select players due to race, but since nonblack elites are in minority, the stereotype that whites tend to have lower ceiling than blacks when it comes to scouting is very true. Case in point: since no Asian American players existed in ppls' minds, Jeremy Lin was under-estimated despite his merits on par with other drafted players.

looks like david lee is starting to become the old double double machine he used to be....in the two games he has played decent minutes he had 14 and 14 in one and with a quarter to go he is 9 and 7 in 15 minutes
