Because we like cheap stuff and companies like profit. Products like the iphone would not exist without China. There is no place in the United states that could setup a production line with 100K people to build 10 million iphones within a few months.
Iphone costs would go up 30 bucks. The bigger issue is they have better infrastructure now. They have glass plants metal plants etc. all setup in a convenient fashion. However with improvements in automation even they might be out of a job.
Like the other guy said, that's not true. Also, a lot of their industries are subsidized to strategically kill competition. They were dumping steel a while back.
