...But if you suggest more balls for Howard, you don't know what you're talking about. Of course, if him or DMo miss 2 shots in a row at any game, then "don't give them any freaking ball back!" Sure we accept our chuckers chucking from outside, even at 1on1 and even if they are Pat or Ariza... But apparently we cannot, at any way, allow our bigs miss consecutive post touches. You will read inmediately posts like "get Howard out", "dont give him a freaking ball" or "put Beasley in". We've had an advantage down low with Motiejunas + Howard during the whole freaking game. Our win was there. Kanter is VERY weak in the post. Dwight got him. We were bricking shots and playing ISOs while no teammate even looked at Dwight, once again its been amazing to watch. It is offensive how stupid our team is. I won't defend Dwight's defense. He looks slower than ever, heavy, showing serious mobility issues and often a questionable intensity, focus and attitude. Capela has for sure become a much more helpful defender overall. So if you're playing Dwight over him, at least try to use him on the other hand. Sounds crazy? Harden is the first responsible. As a leader and at his age he should show a much better understanding of the game. You're very good at 1on1 and p&r, but the win, today, is down low with Dwight and DMo. Reading basketball is not only about reading plays, Mr. Diva. Deserved loss. Please, management, bring in some smart bodies in the summer and over all, a coaching staff with enough guts to teach pro players who dont know the basketball basics, what they should know as pro basketball players.
Refresh my memory, how many of Howards 7-8 were a direct result of him being fed the ball in the post? Also, Harden was 7-17, Howard, Brewer and Ariza a combined 13-32. Why were Howard, Ariza and Brewer given so much ball? (pointing to a fallacy here...)
Another idiotic thread. By your logic, Deandre Jordan should get more touches than Blake or CP3. There is a difference between creating your OWN shot and being spoon fed by your teammates, such as alley-oops. Dwight didn't score a damn point through his post-up game, and since there aren't that many lob chances, you argument doesn't make sense.
Dwight has to more on his end to get shots . It's easy to go 7/8 when all you shoot is alley oops . Dwight can set screens better Dwight can seal for post position better Dwight can run the floor harder Dwight can offensive rebound better He doesn't do any of this , and seeing as how he doesn't dribble the ball , he needs someone to give him the ball . For this to happen he has to be in the correct position . He almost never is . To add to this , other teams know this and they defend accordingly . The way you state it , teams are willing to give up a dunk every time if only we would just pass the ball to Dwight . Those 8 shots tonight indicate missed coverages by okc that left Howard open to revive a shot or one of the other 4 ways Dwight can get a shot . He can take it upon himself to get those looks if he wants them . I don't , however , blame the team for not waiting 5 seconds for Dwight to get pushed out of the paint trying to seal his man for a post pass . # 1 , our team as a whole isn't that good at that pass # 2 , Dwight sucks at getting position . He just doesn't give our passers a big enough window to thro him the ball without it likely being a turnover . So what Dwight is being treated unfairly , suck it up , hustle on both ends and lead by example . He needs to stop being a baby and put the team first EVEN IF the team is in the wrong , eventually they will come around and start working to give him more touches . James had 14 assists in 3 quarters tonight , people were getting open and he was hitting them . You think he was missing Dwight on purpose ?? Dwight wasn't getting open . End of story
So you would rather a 6-12 performance with 5 TOs and 6 missed free throws over an efficient 7-8 performance? Because that is all feeding Howard will do.
DeAndre should get the most shot attempts in the league. More then Curry, KD, Dwight, and even Michael Jordan. 70% shooting for crying out!! Why is DJ only getting 6.5 FG attempts?? Why is a guy like JJ Redick of all people getting more shot attempts than DJ?? 12 FGAs while shooting nearly 50 percent from 3?? That's not nearly as close as 70 percent from the field!! DUMB LEAGUE HATES BIG MEN WHO CAN ONLY DUNK OFF THE LOB SMFH.
Dwight needs the ball more. If he is doubled two times in a row, try a different tactic still involving Howard... Howard can do more damage than some here think. He is not perfect, but IMO underutilized even now that hes mostly healthy.
This so much this. I love how several posters cite Howard's amazing efficiency when it's nothing more than lobs. How many of this buckets are unassisted? 10%? You can't just give him more shots when all of his shots are being created by other playmakers.
I like him, but Howard is a cancer. It's not because he's not good enough. It's not because of his effort. It's because he can be fed a ball, get murdered by defenses with fouls and not get the call. That last play was such b.s. The defender jumps into him for an obvious loose ball foul but the refs do nothing. It happens over and over. It's not his fault, but the NBA treats him like an *******. Sometimes I hate this league, but it's only because I've loved it in the past and will again.
I try to stay away from threads that call out players on offense because the Rockets main issue this season has been defense. But Howard going 7/8 means the Rockets SHOULD run pick and roll type plays more, or plays that set up Howard as an alley-oop threat. Given that Howard was doing his job finishing when those feeds went to him, it should at the very least mean OKC's defense has to stay honest on Dwight and always have one man shadowing the paint when Dwight's opposing big leaves to help. That's on Bev/Ariza/Brewer or whoever the wing guy is to knock down the open shot when Harden or whoever finds him.
DeAndre Jordan has never shown 1on1 abilities, Dwight has. Plus if we agree that he is not as helpful as Capela defensively, you're keeping him in the game because you consider him a better offensive player. Idiotic is doing that and then ignore him, plus DMo. And idiotic is to constantly criticize post misses and being apparently OK with wasting posessions in form of oustide shots of low %. Dwight has not made any of those 7 shots by himself, at 1on1. But I bet you that him and DMo, as bad as supposedly they are in the post (in your mind), would accomplish a higher hit rate just in case they had taken 10 more post touches. For sure a more efficient result than 12 of 35, or from what you get from those 1on1 off the bounce shots from outside. ... Not counting, likely, lower turnovers, and the fact that if you miss shots near the basket with your bigs, you keep a better defensive balance, and also rise the chances of getting offensive rebounds, and fouls. Next time you write about idiocy try to bring a better reasoning.
I can assure you, in 2016, there's very little difference between DeAndre and Dwight in terms of their ability to post-up. Dwight was never a good 1-1 player to begin with, and he relied heavily on his athleticism to get by on everyone. Now that his body is breaking down, he is simply a shadow of himself on both ends of the court.
Dwight consistently shies away from the ball like a little girl. He only dunks PERFECT lob and everything else he fumbles or shies away from. He is a LOSER.
He had several opportunities to flash his hands and post up, and he did not do it once, as observed by Shaq.
I agree that Dwight does need more FGA, but it's the quality not quantity with Dwight. He simply isn't very skilled when he doesn't have good position and is very prone to turn it over.
It isn't. People are confusing quality over quantity. I won't be sad to move on from Dwight since he hasn't done much to improve his game over his career. On the other hand, I recognize the damage he can do when he has the position over the defense.
