You don't have to make the perfect cake to win. Just a better cake than your opponent.

    There is no perfect cake.

So this thread is about Morey's ability to bake cakes?

It is almost half season passed and this team does not look like going beyond the first round.
    Changes are needed.

I never liked this strategy from the get-go.... Or any strategy that limits your options on offense.... If the defense only gives you the midrange jumper, then that becomes the most efficient shot available.

Layups and three point shots are only the most efficient shots in the flow of a normal offense. If you only play for those two types of shots, the defenses will key on stopping those very shots. The efficiency then goes down.

Another aspect of this strategy I don't like is unless a player's strengths are those two particular shots, it forces players to perform outside their skill set. If a player's strengths are in the midrange game, he will struggle playing in this system. (I think this is why Jeremy Lin and DMo have been disappointing in this offense.)

Every good couch in high school could make a plan to limit Haward, 3 point shots. I mean rockets play is so simple to contain, we then rely on athleticism of this team, u could see Harden asking him self" what should i do next! And the voice of McHale reply saying : oh just try harder. Anyway , it always a block party for other good defensive teams

It's Dark Rock's analogy and he said there is a perfect cake to bake. :p

    See, Miami's perfect cake:

The league's average 3P% is .357 as of today, and ours is .344. We tend to lose to teams shooting exceptionally well against us in that game among other reasons.

Patrick Patterson seems to fit in your category well. Pity he is now shining in Torronto with 55.6% 3P%.

McHale will be looking for a new job if he doesn't play Morey's kind of game.

We knew going in that McHale wouldn't be an X's and O's guy. That's fine, I can deal with that.

If this team is also having bad chemistry...that I can't forgive. McHale's singular purpose here is to get everyone on the same page, to keep them motivated, to keep them together. Right now the sum of our parts is much, much better than the whole.

The thing is, the Rockets philosophy places too much emphasis on offense and not on defense...I'm not saying the Rockets need a better offense, they need a better strategy. Although offense wise, late game execution could definitely improve if they had more of an X and Os coach.

In the long run, heavy X's and O's become predictable to other team scouts. Our system has its drawbacks, but one thing it does do is get better as players get to know each other, while remaining less predictable. I don't want this team taking any more mid range J's unless we have an elite mid range shooter.

No issues with the system. Our offense is excellent, and the statistics reflect that. We need better defense, and that's an area where the Rockets believe in an extremely structured approach but the results have been really poor despite having a squad capable of at least average defense. I think the person and system that should be scrutinized is the defensive coach and his system.

If you can't convert 3s and layups for a good percentage then Morey's recipe is worth crap!

Our system is good for making stars(but hell no super star) and padding figures. and give Morey more Chips on the trading table (in the past times), but NOW days other Team GMs know this Tactic so marginal effect of this system is pretty LOW. for win we are not sure yet.
i think Morey has been managed too deep, Coach is not his job, he's good at finding underdogs.
