Max money to Harden and max money to Westbrick... who can we afford that can consistently hit the three? All those guys want to get paid especially in today's NBA.
Moreys been around for a decade and a half just about. Overpaying Ryan Anderson was the best he could do.
Davis might actually be making 20+M. It's absolutely crazy but I think it's gonna happen. Dude was like the 35th ranked fantasy player this year.
What made Duncan Robinson so great is that Miami didn't just "go out and get him". They found raw talent. They taught, coached, and developed him for their system. They gave him time to fail (he was really mediocre last year) and grow. They built an offensive system to find ways to get him and others open for the shots they were good at through motion and screens. It was 100% the opposite of the Rockets' "let's plug a bunch of random new guys into the system every year and have them stand around and shoot 3s" method.
What Major said. Rockets must find their Duncan Robinson. Real Duncan Robinson was not found and certainly would have not played by the Rockets. Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro all would be glued to the bench.
This is all true, but I think it's worth noting that the Heat weren't competing for anything last year. They had nothing to lose by having him struggle for a year. Rockets have been going all-in on every season for the last several seasons, and this lack of development time is one of the casualties of that approach.
Absolutely - but that's a tradeoff the Rockets choose to make. The way teams like the Heat get those kinds of players is by developing them. if the Rockets aren't willing/able to do that, then they need to plan to not have those types of players. On the flipside, Miami also managed to develop a fairly raw Herro on the fly this season, though he was a top-15 type pick so his underlying skills were already there. But in both cases, they ran an offensive scheme that maximized their roles players' ability to contribute.
Someone like Gallo, for example, is so much more than just a spot-up shooter. [Not that there’s anything wrong with being a spot-up shooter. Robinson is elite in that regard, but he and Gallo are extremely different players] But you don’t get a Gallo type and tell him to stand in the corner and only shoot open 3’s. @Major and @J.R. hit the nail on the head. If you seek a Duncan Robinson type, you have to be able to spot raw talent in a player like Robinson that’s hungry and willing to work hard to improve. His jumper and quick release are things of beauty. Once you spot all of that, you have to be patient and put that player in a position to succeed.

Rockets should sign and develop the following: 6'7 Ryan Broekhoff (40% 3P - already 27) 6'8 Josh Jackson (35% 3P - only 23, former top 5 lottery pick) 7'0 Dragan Bender (35% 3P - only 22, former lottery pick) 6'6 Justin Anderson (44" max vert, 7'0 wingspan, 35% 3P) 6'9 Jonah Bolden (35% 3P, 7'3 wingspan) That said, Rockets need to invest in expanding and adding to their development staff. Bring their analytics to the development team would be a start. And I think Jerry Stackhouse would be a good add. Lucas is a well known and respected development coach but he is more a shooting coach than a true all around skills development coach.
This guy is impressive. Just having a guy like that on the roster that is consistent would have made an impact playing alongside Harden.
