The Rockets did speak with Cassell... there are a number of candidates they have spoken to that haven’t been discussed because their either haven’t had a formal interview or because the Rockets haven’t released the information. I like Sam and think he is going to get a shot. The issue is that he is primarily known as a player development coach. If Lue is hired, there is a chance he gets an associate head coach from the Rockets. However most likely Sam will have to wait until a rebuilding team wants a coach.
This is just an option, he is hard to understand and coaching is communicating. I do not know if that is truly his only deficit but it clearly is one.

No, people around him can understand him. He is very well respected as a player development coach and is excellent at talent scouting. For a long time he didn’t really get much time designing and running plays. Doc Rivers has helped a lot with that, he let Sam have some say. Now Sam has done just about everything. The top issue is likely still whether he can do a good job designing and calling plays.... he will get a shot, it will just likely be a rebuilding team.
sam's best assets are nostalgia and developing young PGs. doc brings in joerger as top assistant in PHI. lue is bringing in billups as top assistant in LAC. no love for cassell from either of them. maybe he gets to be the second assistant with one of them like he was this year. we shouldn't be tripping over ourselves because he's not the hire.
