Its honestly hard to muster even a little give a damn at this point.

Maybe after we've crawled into the playoffs a flip will switch, but these hitters look DOA right now.

Dodgers hate the Astros so much they may just intentionally get swept by the Angels to give them a chance to take out the Astros.

We're all down on the Astros but for a little hope look back on the Cardinals Word Series in 2006. They had an awful final 2 weeks of the season. Cardinals had around an 8 game lead on the Astros with about 10 games left and nearly blew the division, barely finishing above .500. They got hot in the playoffs and won the World Series.

    Exactly!

With that said we still need to clinch that spot. Anxiety is building.

Can't get eliminated in the postseason if you don't make the postseason

I thought the top two teams of each division goes to the playoffs? I guess the Angels could still make the WC but 2nd in division is pretty much the Astros unless they get swept by the Rangers and Seattle wins out.. Or do I have this wrong?

Stros magic number to clinch 2nd in the division (so weird to type that) is 2 over the Angels, 1 over the Mariners. Angels have the tiebreaker over us, we have it over Seattle.

eta: we're also 1 game back of Toronto for the 2nd wild card, the tiebreaker there would be record w/in the respective divisions. (we're 18-18, they're 19-17), if that's tied it's record in last 20 division games.

Toronto's win over New York yesterday eliminated any chance we have of the 2nd wildcard. Toronto wins the tiebreaker over us based on the last 20 division games (that disastrous last road trip when we went 1-9 against the Angels and A's killed us in this regard).

Basically, it's 2nd or bust for us. One key thing to note on the Anaheim magic number...all it takes is one Anaheim loss since they are currently 3 back in the loss column with 3 games (for them) to go, but Astros need 2 wins if Anaheim doesn't lose since they are only 2 back in the win column.

You sure about that? 1st tiebreaker (since no head to head games) is intradivision record.

I'm sure...Only way for the wildcard scenario to come into play is if the Angels win out, Toronto loses out, and the Astros win 1 of the last 4 games with Texas. Otherwise, they win 2, 3, or sweep (or Anaheim/Seattle lose a game) and finish second in the division...or, the Astros lose all 4 to Texas and wouldn't be able to catch Toronto even if they lose out since Toronto is ahead of them.

If they win one game and the Angels win all three of theirs, while Toronto loses out, there would be a 3 way tie in which 2nd in the division would be broken first. Angels would get 2nd in the division based on a better head to head record (4-6). Toronto would then win the tiebreaker over the Astros because of a better last 20 games in the division since both would finish 19-21 inside their own division. In the last 20 games in division, Toronto would be 8-12 in this scenario while the Astros would be 6-14...going 1-8 vs the Angels and A's on that last California road trip sunk us.

Note: The Angels are also alive for the 2nd wildcard at this point...they'd need Toronto to lose out while they sweep the Dodgers to end in a tie. They'd then go to the tiebreaker...same division records, but Anaheim has a better last 20 in their division (12-8 vs Toronto's 8-12). As of right now, Toronto has a magic number of 1 for the 2nd wildcard and the only other team that can get it is Anaheim.

If this team finds a way not to make the playoffs, well, I guess that would be just like this team...

Just got caught up on the game...where the hell has this Astros offense been? They own Lance Lynn this year, can't hit Jordan Lyles.

    Nice homer for Bregman.

Odor...Bless his heart. He tries so hard.

Rangers putting on a defensive clinic.

Bregman had 7 total bases in his previous 9 games. He has 7 in 3 ABs tonight, and the one time they got him out was a double that was smoked right to 3B
