But Cobb was open peters was so far back Cobb could of at least picked up a few yards and it was first down.
The interception? Yeah Deshaun missed a wide open receiver in the flat. I thought it was Johnson, but either way the dude was open by 10-15 yards. He forced that one.
you are 100% right bro .. we need to first be on the same page as to what is supposed to happen on a progression. You can see Watson looking downfield every time this play is run - that invites tendency into the sport. If Cobb was part of the progression Watson would have looked into the flat AT LEAST ONCE when they ran that dumb play, but he's always looking downfield - its why Peters peeled off when he saw that crosser coming at him. You want him to break progression and dump it off - that would have been great sure - he should have done it. Im sure in the film room they will bring it up and everyone will go through the route tree and progressions and i'd expect there to be some intent if they do run that play again to get the flat guy some touches.
His eyes were fixed that entire play. You can’t stare down a receiver and not expect a ballhawk to read that.
No more Belichick disciples please. If Cal has any guts, he’ll clean house and bring in an outside GM to select his coach. I’m looking at SF, Seahawks and Ravens front office in particular.
At this point I think the Texans could go 0-16 and BOB would still have a job. It's bizarre how he has so much job security despite being incompetent, but then our ownership is just as clueless.
Yep! Stability is good. Patience is good. But not at the expense of results. The Texans can talk all they want about winning a Super Bowl, and legitimately want to win one (I think they do) - but as long as they bring BO'B back, every single person in that organization knows it's not a standard they have to meet. They can win 9, 10 games; win a playoff game and everyone can maintain status quo with no repercussions.
As long as we don't go 2-14, Cal can still relish in everyone at all the River Oaks parties and fund raisers knowing that HE'S the owner of the Houston Texans. That's really all he wants. I can see him using COVID-19 as an excuse not to fire anyone this year no matter what happens. "We will reassess once we have our awesome fans back in the stadium for every home game."
They need a college coach, IMO. The gap that used to exist between the two (NCAA & NFL) is shortening and the two (of several) keys to being a good coach, right now, is to 1) adjust to greater year-to-year roster turnover; 2) rely less on systems and more on building around your personnel. Both of those keys are college staples; coaches don't shun blue-chip recruits because they don't fit a system. They get the best players and build around their strengths. And those players change constantly. My tippy-top choice is, and always will be, David Shaw. Go get Tony Elliot from Clemson, too - and let him and Deshaun build an offense for Deshaun.
You obviously can't rule out any bad decision as they seem to love bathing in them.... but there's a decent chance the Texans are 2-5 at the bye, and 1-6/0-7 is very much in play. I would hope that would be the jolt Cal very obviously needs.
Yeah. I mean, Dabo makes sense, obviously - but... something about him makes me think he's more recruiter/face of the franchise than coach. But totally down with them getting his OC (Elliot).
This is a consequence of COVID-19. The cap is determined by revenue. The cap was supposed to be higher, but due to potential revenue loss from the pandemic, the NFL and NFLPA agreed to set a floor of $175 M, meaning the cap won't be lower than that. Based solely on revenue, the cap could've been $130 M or less without that agreement. If revenues are unexpectedly higher, the 2021 cap could go back up. Naturally, teams didn't expect the 2021 cap to be that low when negotiating contracts. A lot of people are going to be cut around the league and free agents looking for a big payday are kind of screwed. Right now: 2020: $198.2 M 2021: $176 M 2022: $227.5 M 2023: $241 M 2024: $256 M
A little of both but the latter doesn’t matter if you can’t rip the band aid right off, something the McNairs haven't done since inception. Keeping Casserly when they fired Capers, keeping Smith when they fired Kubiak, giving full reign to BoB after they parted ways with Smith. Hell Bob letting Cal make Rick Smith the Godfather of his children was a mistake. Sure it’s more of a personal matter but you gotta stand up and say nope not a good idea.
