specifically, what were RBG last, final, cold moments you took a lot of joy in?

The reality that her replacement would be made by Trump of course!
Don’t get me wrong , it’s easy to assume but I’m very somber and downtrodden she passed but excited about this new SCJ! Very happy and upbeat simultaneously for what I feel is a certain pick :)

My guess is still Amy Barrett as she seemed to be the runner up for Kavanaugh and has a lot of Evangelical support.

    Lagoa is Catholic also.
Being a Cuban hispanic, this selection would garner a lot of crucial Floridian votes. Being a woman will also garner more of the female vote.
Would be a savvy choice by Trump.

Lagoa would be a tremendous candidate. She understands the true dangers associated with socialism from her family's experience with Castro. The Hispanic community would be beaming with orgullo and she would be a strong defender of the constitution.

    A+

She is only 48 years old and doesn’t believe in legal precedents... perfect for Trump. She is also a militant, no chance of her softening on the court.

She should naturalize to every country in the world with universal healthcare to warn their citizens about the dangers. Can she gain citizenship to 30-40 countries though? That’s the question.

Can she get sworn in in time, or will it get stalled?

Also, will this mean that all those senators that went on record saying they would never do this get voted out? Does adding a Justice mean we'll have a super packed Dem senate?

    In a word, no.
Due to the 'map' this year having a lot of senate dems defending their seats and relatively few repubs defending competitive seats, even if the dems win in a blowout they would get between 51-54 seats.

Even in a nightmare republican scenario where the dems take the Executive, 53 seats in the senate, AND kill the filibuster, they'll still have a few blue dogs in there holding things up.

Logoa would be the perfect replacement to carry on RBG's legacy of a strong, smart woman on the court.

She seems nominally qualified on paper. I googled around a little to find out why people might think she was politically unfit, and I didn't find much. Here's the most critical I found after 2 minutes of work: https://www.afj.org/nominee/barbara-lagoa/.

Barrett has a large record that can be dissected. Everything becomes evaluated in the context of health care and Barrett has actually written law review pieces arguing that the ACA should've been struck down. Putting aside abortion, Barrett has just put herself out there on so many issues around employment law, health care, etc.. and I think that will be a problem. If there wasn't an election in two months, I'd actually think Barrett would be the choice but with the election and the ACA case in November, I suspect she'll drag down Republicans and parts of the caucus will push for a different nominee.

Lagoa's record as a judge is so short that she can just refuse to take a position on anything in a confirmation hearing and get away with it. And Lagoa isn't writing articles stating that Roe v Wade should be overturned. Barrett's outspokenness is why Conservatives love her but its also why she's a terrible nominee two months before an election.

I haven't seen this topic addressed and maybe it's in another thread: The Lindsey Graham footage. I've wondered how do you get around giving your word like that, but then I just saw a clip of him admonishing the dems during the Kavanaugh hearings and then you've got the partisan impeachment during an election year. It's an easy walk back, imo, but it'll make a good sound bite to serve the Dems.

Also, the threat of packing the bench - What makes anyone think they won't do it anyway? The Repubs have to move forward expecting this to be the norm. And to be fair, it's Trump's duty to nominate. Whether or not they take the vote is pure politics and you have to expect it to go that way. The Dems would do the same.

It's an interesting conundrum, for sure.

I can't say that I would ever expect either party to just lay down and wait. Especially in times that are so contentious like these.

She is also not Hispanic and from Florida, you know Trump will stiff arm Barrett to try and win Florida.

    Wait what?

How is that an easy walk back, one has nothing to do with another and he made those statements about not voting after the Kavanaugh hearings.

Once again your lack of knowledge on actual facts are astounding.
