Text is straight out Putin's trolls' playbook: Blacks and libtards are after your Rosie O'Donnell show and Confederate flag on your porch - rise up. Also, his tone reminds me of Creedy from "V for Vendetta". Creepy as hell. We have an info wars style conman for president. Biden better bring this country together somehow - this is just horrible.
What should we be proud of specifically that has happened in recent years? Can you give some examples - I'm seriously want to feel positive/inspired on the subject.. I can't recall any national scale successful undertakings. No breakthrough inspirational leaders of Obama's ilk. Elon Musk did some good stuff I guess but he also did some embarrassing sh*t too. We have the Wall and asymmetric warfare conflicts that we appear to be losing. No major wins in geopolitical dealings either. (Finishing off ISIS is undermined by betraying of Kurds. And apparently ISIS is back now.) Based on Trump's new political ads, we are supposed to be proud of our great economy but due to the wealth gap all we have to show for it are protests and riots (que in pics of looting of a gucci store).
You'd never guess by listening to this crazed leader spreading lies and propaganda straight our of Hitler's playbook. America WAS great and can be again once we get a leader who cares about the people. By that I mean all of them, not the select few
I wasn't talking specifically about recently.... FWIW I don't think there has been much going on around the world that anyone should be proud of.
good post. and the truth be told every country wants to be like us and jocks us hard. if you spend extended time in any 3rd world or first world country you might be homesick but there are unmistakable shortcomings in most that are not usa.. even somewhere like france there are ceilings in society that dont exist as much as usa. then go down the list and it starts to feel more and more like mexico 3rd world than france. people can call that quaint or cute and free medical yet even in uk the medical side is not on par with usa and the private there of course isnt cheap or all that cracked up to be. a family member from usa was visiting some family in england..they got sick in and even after moving to private due to inadequacies with public system even then it was lacking. usa has jobs and you can get a decent place on a janitors income. you cant get the janitor job in spain because it has 5000 applicants. europeans care more about usa pop culture then we do. everytime i go back europe its more and more like usa. finally get one place that has 24 hour convenience store kinda thing whole town goes nuts for...its sorta sad going to somewhere in uk or europe and them looking puzzled that we dont know some usa reality show or some stupid cell phone gadget app trend etc that we had months ago. total wannabes the lot.
Europe stood pretty united for democratic values recently, in contrast to US - not too much nationalism in the face of the Syrian immigration and domestic terrorism. Even inspired a pro democracy revolution in Ukraine (at the cost of losing Crimea). I guess, having Russians and Chinese on your continent and an isolationist American leadership may force your hand a little there. The yellow jacket protests were pretty violent though and being socialist in nature is frowned upon in America, but I think jury is still out on how much socialism is too much socialism. Patriotism for the sake of patriotism sounds like propaganda and effects political process in unnatural/unstable ways. The press has already been significantly compromised - add more of some fake propoganda (patriotism) and it may completely crumble in terms of its proper function in a democracy (keeping people in power accountable).
Did they? I don't think that Europe stood united at all recently. There is a strong and popular anti-immigration sentiment in most of Western Europe. I spend a lot of time in Europe, and the anti - immigration sentiment is every bit as strong there as in the USA. Patriotism is also wide spread in Western Europe as well. I agree that patriotism for the sake of patriotism is stupid.
in Trumps America everyday will be Hawaiian Shirt day (substitute confederate flag **** as needed), and bringing your AR to school day will be mandatory for ages 5 and up so the Nazi err Trump youth can practice shooting the liberal enemy. OH and don't forget to register for the weekly smear the queer tournament (now with actual queers) to be held right after mandatory church services where you will learn how Trump divided America just like Moses parted the Red Sea and convinced the evangelicals to abandon all that "love thy neighbor" stuff that loser Jesus preached. Trump loves prophets that weren't crucified.
if I’m a citizen of SK, Taiwan, Singapore, I would be proud of the gov response to covid. in the US, Hawaii did a good job early on (haven’t check lately). I would be proud of the local government response. Those whistleblower and those that risked (and lost) their job to speak up against the corruption of this admin -proud of them. There are very good people out there that care. Real patriots.
That's true. Racism and anti-immigration is always there, but it just hasn't made big headways politically it seems. Brexit also happened. I don't know. I liked France when I visited recently and Germany seems like a steady leading force over there and their Corona virus handling has been relatively inspiring. It's a subjective matter though - what is inspiring and what is not. My history teacher in HS was inspiring because he prioritized truth and inquiry and passion for the subject. I cringe when politically biased older generation start preaching about liberal education bias which seems to be based on nothing but nostalgia, conspiracy/rumors and tribalism.
Taiwan is definitely very proud of their response to COVID-19 so is New Zealand. They have good reason to be.
Our education system has been pretty patriotic already if you ask me. There's so much shady stuff that the US has done that we sweep under the rug and we've brainwashed most Americans to think that we're the moral saviors of the world. Sure, every government has their dirt, but no one has gotten away with nearly as much as the US.
i remember not too long ago when michelle obama was called a marxist for trying to get kids to eat healthier.
its interesting that the core history at university is around 1877. it wasnt until college classes did I realize what had happened to the native american population. i had never heard any of this. nasty stuff. at the lowest of levels though appreciating and flyng home country flag should always be encouraged and ok
