Injuries are a concern with any player in any sport signing any type of contract. For position, production, and projection it’s a good contract.
DW4 reportedly wanted a 3 year deal originally but good to see we were able to tack on another year. This is a trend from the NBA that is slowly trickling into the NFL. Barring injury, you stand to make a lot more signing multiple deals with signing bonuses, guarantees and the inevitable market reset every 2-3 years.
The NFL is a contact sport and alot can happen in 6 years. I would have thought he would prioritize securing a 10 yr, 400 million deal over this. If I understand correctly, it is 4 years added on to 2 remaining so it's a ways out. Is the consensus Mahomes THAT much better than Watson?
Maybe Watson has maximized his abilities. Looks like it's going to be a long four years regardless of who the HC is.
Maybe he takes a step this year and firmly establishes himself as a top 3 QB. Would bet the house on that happening vs him regressing or having ‘maximized’ his abilities
In Deshaun, we trust. DHop active in the social media didn't congratulate #4. Maybe Texans know who is a true teammate.
DHop is on another team because he didn't like this team. He also wants more money because he is underpaid but he signed the contract. He is classic me first guy, that's OK because he is good, but I think this team wants more of team first guy. Question, did he really think of Watson as friend or just his QB. He answered that one loud and clear.
LOL. I love how "communicate over social media" is the definition of an actual friend. Maybe he texted him directly like most people would hope their friends would do. Or - crazy I know - but maybe he actually spoke to him directly. Or maybe he hates him and has no contact at all. Whatever the answer, whether he posted on social media or not gives you literally zero insights.
This. D-Hop is on another team because BOB didn’t want him here. Don’t know all the actual reasons, but at the end of the day BOB felt like this team could win without D-Hop, which IMO is completely stupid. I do not believe the D-Hop would’ve sat out, but BOB wants to be like Darth Belichick, where he runs the team and it goes like he says. Looks like D-Hop didn’t buy in, so he was shipped out. Maybe one day we’ll get the whole story.
He was shipped out because he's about to make 100+ million on a new deal. Texans were never paying that. If Keenan Allen was the benchmark, he will surely eclipse it.
LMAO. You based this opinion on what? Your subjective opinion without any facts as usual to back it up?
You know, You're right. Watson did the social media equivalent of I got your back when DHop was shipped out for peanuts. When Mahones got paid DHop did a dirty to dig at the old team and in directly at DW4. Now DW4 got paid and nothing. That's OK, they friends. This private, right. But your right, don't know anything about how he feels about this team and his old QB.
The Mahomes deal is an outlier. It’s a crazy long deal with some astronomical numbers attached to it. But NFL contracts are all about the guaranteed money and think DW4 will stand to make a lot more in guaranteed than Mahomes by end of his deal. He already got $10M than Mahomes at signing and only $30M less in total guaranteed despite being much shorter. So say DW4 plays out his contract, he’ll be due for a brand new contract with all new guaranteed money (and likely higher base salary) while Mahomes will still have another 5 years to play out. But neither guys are sweating this I’m sure.
By the end of his deal, what will it matter if the money was guaranteed or not? It only matters before the money is paid.
Poor wording on my part and yes you are correct. But come 2026, DW4 could be line for another $100M+ guaranteed while Mahomes will essentially be on a year to year deal from that point on. Of course he stands to make a ridiculous amount of money should the entire contract be fulfilled. But have read a few things that the Mahomes deal is set up to be restructured in a few year and that DW4 could end up making more than Mahomes if he maxes out his next deal.
