The Yankees are facing the very real possibility that the Rays own that division for the foreseeable future... and they need to decide if Judge/Stanton are really the long term core that is going to help win a title again.

The Rays are better right now for sure. Making decisions based on someones future health has gotta be close to a crapshoot. Its precarious for the Yankees brass for sure. But to my thinking, there are two ways they lose and only one way to win.

They win if they keep them and they stay healthy.
They lose if they trade them and they stay healthy.
They lose if they keep them and they become unhealthy.
I suppose its a wash if they trade them and they become unhealthy. Not a win to me because you dont replace that kind of potential talent very easily. And Is it ever truly a win for you just because the other guy lost?

edit: But if they now carry the label of "damaged goods", would they get any kind of meaningful return in a trade? I sure wouldn't give up a Correa type talent for either or even both. NYY wouldnt do it for a second tier guy ( I dont think).

    Not really 2020 related...but I watched 42 today. What a great movie.

With so many fans calling for the 'Stros title to be rescinded/astericked...um...how about EVERY SINGLE CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE 1947?

Neither of those guys is close to being a generational talent. Judge is 28 years old and injured very often while playing a relatively low demand position. Stanton is 30 years old and doesn’t even play a position.

Correa isn’t in the same category... nor do the Astros have to really decide one way or the other right now. Nor do the Astros really have major completion within their division over the next few years that isn’t insurmountable.

Chapman throwing 101 at Rays’ head...my god...interesting watch. I like Kevin Cash.

Olney: Jeff Luhnow and the Astros are responsible for Chapman throwing up and in to the Rays.

LOL, I can almost make out the calculus:

Astros cheat and piss everybody off and create the compulsion for teams to get payback, thus creating a culture where payback is not only condoned... its expected, and thus delivered/accepted throughout the league to address any sort of conflict.

Hell, this actually makes more sense than his real article, which I still don't get (how was Luhnow responsible for the labor standoff again?)

Against 7 inning games, runner starts extra innings on 2nd, and the DH (though prefer same rule in both leagues than current normal season situation)

For automated strike zone, pitch clocks (though pitcher has an alloted amount for every 10-15 pitches instead of time per each pitch), keeping batter in box, electronic means to prevent sign stealing, pitcher has to step off mound to throw over.

Generally against 3-batter rule, but don't think it is a big deal either way.

P.S. For humidors at each stadium, and baseballs meeting certain COR and drag coefficient properties to be allowed in games. I'm also for moving mound back 2-6 inches.

I am really enjoying watching this NYY - TBR rivalry heat up. Boston used to fill that roll but for now, they are irrelevant. That is just fine with me because I dont care that much for Boston either. TB I genuinely like, so all for the better.

Suspensions are expected to be severe. We will see.

Watching today's game. TB with a pair of HOME RUNS in the 1st vs Montgomery.

    4-0 Rays!

Yep, I liked baseball when more action occurred in less time, and I like fair play with consistent conditions.

Sabermetrics, players, coaches, umps have changed the game too much towards homers, walks, strikeouts, and taking their sweetass time. I prefer rule changes that would mitigate changes caused by Sabermetrics, players, coaches, umps over last 20-30 years to restore the game to as close to how it was as possible.
