All I'm going to say is that I had a lot of fun for a few years there in the 90s. Though, I did learn to dislike the sunrise. I was seeing it way too often and not because I was being productive and getting up early.

“I take Quaaludes 10-15 times a day for my "back pain", Adderall to stay focused, Xanax to take the edge off, pot to mellow me out, cocaine to wake me back up again, and morphine... Well, because it's awesome”

Yeah ... well that is what Ken Caminiti called “Spring training”...

Also I know HST exaggerated but I completely believe that was his routine because I have known people like that. A very good friend of mine did that for a decade. My wife did something similar for years.... what made HST amazing is he did it as an old man.

No, he just had a way with words, even as a young "journalist". Were the drugs part of it? Sure.

Same with Ken Kesey, or Hemingway, or any number of brilliant creative musicians/writers/actors/whoevers

I was talking about his drug use at his age. I agree his way with words and approach made him a unique journalist and memorable.

Gotcha. The Johnny Depp stories from when he went and "researched" HST in Aspen, are pretty damn believable, because they're both crazy as hell.

I'd heard some things, basically that "nah, that guy don't **** around", from localish people back several years ago.

Sounds exhausting. So many substances to juggle, track and acquire. I can't even believe people smoke due to the time/money/effort overhead. It's a self-constructed prison.

It was second nature to him.... the way you would sit and eat a bag of chips or sip on a drink.

He really didn't have a structured life so he basically slept, wrote, ate a lot of food, did a lot of drugs and looked for adventure........ he was famous for getting easily bored and that led to what many would find as self destructive behavior, except it made him famous....... I cannot imagine what he would do now with the access of twitter and instagram and phones with cameras. He would likely just live stream his life as walking art OR gone into hiding.

Also his personality and mind was the prison, he used everything else as a distraction...... when it wasn't fun anymore, and wasn't ever going to be fun again, he blew his head off.

What are you talking about smoking?

Because if it's the same thing I am thinking those people are not doing it right.
