We work with BCM folks fairly regularly. They said there has definitely been an upswing in cases in their hospitals, but nothing to worry about.

Fear mongering is the only way numbskulls will listen. Go ahead tell people again that everything is fine and see what happens.

It's true, which is why smart people didn't get butthurt when Houston announced fines for those not wearing masks. Nobody was writing tickets for that ****. It's positioning the message. Something Abbott really failed at over the past 6 weeks.

Just realized I posted this in the Hangout, rather than in D&D, ugh.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

The issue is that most people are not willing to go read pass the headline, so the only way to get their attention is through apocalyptic messages lol. The interview states that they did want people to understand that behaviors needed to change because the experts are fully aware that we on an upswing of cases and ultimately this could lead to a surge situation in the ICUs. Thankfully, we can develop more capacity, but lets be real here, because of this message people are going to back to not believing.

This is the inconsistency of messages by our government. You have to have leaders willing to make the tough choices in times of crisis.

Ultimately, I think we can remain open, we don't need to do a total shutdown. Abbott's administration has had plenty of time to prepare for this issue coming back up again and he quickly showed he wasn't ready for the moment. Lina Hidalgo, on the other hand, has had NRG arena ready to take on surge by retrofitting the AC systems to be allow to have COVID patients. Hopefully, we don't have to use this surge space, but it's there if we truly needed.

There are plenty of bars that were operating safely (Axelrad, Brash Brewing, The New Potato, etc) and it's unfair to these establishments that we we are forcing them to close again. A ton of bars in the area have outdoor space to continue to stay open and have done every effort to stay clean and open. At this point, closing down the economy is stupid, because we never took this **** seriously, so we can't backtrack our mistakes. We only compile those mistakes by attempting to backtrack, when in reality we just need adequate planning to prevent catastrophe. Contact tracing is our best friend.

It's not that I'm choosing money over lives, I'm just being ****ing realistic as to the long term economic impacts caused by this half assed bullshit leadership. This country doesn't have a true safety net for people to fall back on because we choose to spar over ideological differences in how to help those in need. It's easy for some people to state "**** money, we need to save lives" but what cost? If this country could do what Canada is doing for it's citizens, then I wouldn't feel so uneasy about closing up shop.

Imagine if we could mandate non-essential businesses to close down and have a bunch of resources readily available such as:
    • Mortgage assistance for those that lost their jobs
    • Rent assistance for those that lost their jobs
    • Rent assistance for small businesses that are forced to close
    • Medicaid/medicare for those that lost their health insurance (don't come at me with the COBRA bullshit)
    • Sufficient PPE to cover all of our healthworkers
    • Contact tracing
    • Supplemental income for those that need to pay the bills
    • Temporary food stamps for those people that can no longer afford to pay food
Etc etc, there is so much more that we can do in order to minimize the economic impacts that this **** was going to have, but instead we are sparing about ****ing masks, about social distancing, etc.

The 2nd economic package to help Americans was decent, but at the same time, we gave a lot of money to a lot of Americans that did not needed and we also put this arbitrary $600 increase in unemployment which may discourage workers searching for jobs. If anything we should of provided payments to Americans that actually needed the boost and we should have also provided UBI at least temporarily. We could of done this based on a regional approach, since not every region in the country is being hit at once. Instead, this **** is about politics. We have a system of failures and both parties can kiss my ass.

AZ had 9 covid deaths yesterday.

From media reports, you would think it's a warzone.

The usual suspects cherry picking their data as usual.

Come December, we will see this handled totally different regardless of which party is in office. We will start seeing a little more common sense and less manipulation of data.

I can't tell if you're really this stupid or just don't care.

    New York 7-day rolling averages:

    June 1st:
    Cases: 1525
    Deaths: 97

    June 28th:
    Cases: 789
    Deaths: 39

    Arizona 7-day rolling averages:

    June 1st:
    Cases: 508
    Deaths: 16

    June 28th:
    Cases: 3074
    Deaths: 36

    NY Population: 19.4 MM
    AZ Population: 7.4 MM

You decide which is the bigger concern right now. Keep in mind that deaths trail cases by several weeks.
