    Good afternoon CF!

Celebrating my ten year wedding anniversary next month and we have a week-long trip to NYC planned.

Any tips, tricks, recommendations? We love great food, so that's a huge part of our plans. Also have plans to go to the MOMA and Guggenheim and 1 World Trade... But I'm here for stuff NOT in the travel guides. REAL tips for visitors.

    Please post your best recommendations!!

I hear the Olive Garden in Times Square is fantastic.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is fantastic. Easily my favorite place to visit in NYC. I've done most of the other things that people mark as must-do, but I could go to the Met again and again and not be bored.

Specifically, one of my favorite things is doing scavenger hunts there. They're really fun and well-run. They have you speeding around the Met (walking fast, no running) all over the place looking for clues in its exhibits. They take a couple hours, and they're quite challenging, and a blast. Check them out here: https://watsonadventures.com/location/new-york-city/metropolitan-museum-art/

Not really. We're a couple of almost 40 stoners that typically stick to museums, historic landmarks, and good restaurants when we travel. Low key kinda folks.

I've only been to NYC once previously, and the Met was my favorite. Will def check out the scavenger hunts though!! That sounds dope.

Lol, we already have reservations at Bubba Gump's and Red Lobster, but we'll try to squeeze in the Garden.

Awesome. Congrats. Never been, but it's on my list soon.
Our ten year is in October. I'm starting to plan some sort of vacation as well. Just gotta figure out where we want to go.

Highly recommend Guy Fieri’s restaurant in Times Square if you two feel like riding the bus to flavor town. Serious jalapeño popper action that is off the chain.

    I live in the City.

What sort of food are you most into? Kinda depends where you're staying as to what I'd recommend, but I'd highly recommend Italian, it's worlds better than anything we have in Houston. Also depends on your price range, there are great options for all. One of my favorites is L'Artusi .Any other cuisines you're interested in? Socarrat is a great place for paella, Ippudo is my favorite ramen, Jongro for Korean BBQ. If you're in the Upper West, Barney Greengrass is a great place for a fat kid breakfast of Lox. If you're set on a place for dinner, make sure to book a rez in advance if you can, they book up.

MoMA is a good option, I haven't been to the Guggenheim. The MET is really nice, as is the Natural History Museum. Museum of Sex is, interesting.

Check out the High Line or Brooklyn Bridge if the day is nice for a walk. Check out a show too (not sure what's running now, but Dear Evan Hansen and Come From Away are good). Off Broadway is much cheaper and can be interesting. Try for a taping of a show (I've been to Last Week Tonight). Check out a comedy show.

Midtown sucks generally (I may be biased since I work there, 7th and 53rd), so I'd recommend sticking more to the downtown area (except for the shows on broadway) if you're just wandering around in the afternoon. Central Park is nice for a walk. You might see some celebs in East Village, Greenwich, and SoHo. Those neighborhoods are good for strolling around into random bars, restaurants, and shops. Brooklyn is nice too. Williamsburg has a ton of hipsters (dense population of flannel shirts and handlebar mustaches).

Time Out has a good list:
    https://www.timeout.com/newyork/things-to-do/101-things-to-do-in-new-york

In addition to what I mentioned above, the NY Public Library is nice; they have the original Winnie the Pooh dolls (AA Milne's stuffed animials). The Strand is a good book store - It's popular among locals... but it is just a bookstore.

There are some good things happening in the parks in the summer time, but it may be a bit too early in the season.

Cheers Mak! This is all really great info. Thank you so much.

We're staying near Times Square because we got a good deal on a hotel. We are in town for a whole week, so I'm trying to do some stuff on a budget so we can spend extra on a few big things, but if it comes down to it, I don't care... Only happens once! I proposed to the Mrs. in NYC in 2009 (my only other time to visit) so I have a slight frame of reference, but I'm sure a ton has changed.

Definitely planning to see a show, hit up Brooklyn for a day, and spend a lot of time downtown. And we love all types of food... I actually had another friend or 2 recommend Ippudo (and the Strand!). Do you have a favorite seafood spot? And is Peter Luger worth it? Live jazz is also an interest... have a place you like?

If you don't mind, I may reach out to you again as we continue to plan, but I sincerely appreciate the help/advice! It's really helpful to get a local perspective.

Bro I third Ippudo. Easily my favorite ramen place in NY. It's a long wait though, so if you don't want to wait as long, if highly recommend going by like at 2. Just have a late lunch. At least that's what I did last time and I walked right in (this is the one near Union square).

Brooklyn Park has some kick ass views of the Manhattan and you don't have to deal with as big tourist crowd.
