The problem with Harden isn't what happens after him being trapped. He's decent at passing out of doubles. The problem is that he is a really easy player to double and trap because he's only in one area of the court at all times when he doesn't have the ball. You never see him run around a screen and catch the ball for a quick j off the elbow. Nothing besides step back threes and straight line drives. The double works so well with Harden also because the 4 vs 3 advantage quickly evaporates because of Harden's stationaryness.
Most practice videos I watch show him doing this = he is only doing this in all of his practice time The logic is sound.
This is getting out of hand. He led the league in scoring by one of the largest margins ever. He was averaging almost ,40 points per game for a big part of the season and is on his way to leading the league in scoring for third straight year. But sure we know how to improve his offensive game.
It shows in game. He has no post moves and no off ball game. He's just a face up dribbler who just does step backs and straight line drives. His game was more varied before. Just watch a typical Jordan or Kobe game and just see how varied their scoring is from all parts of the floor from face up dribbling moves, back to basket and quick catch and shoot plays. They use every part of the half court also.
Idk you OG but I promise you the point of a “free clinic” or any clinic at all is to inspire and teach but yeah please let’s make fun on young dudes trynna hoop... because it’s easier to make fun rather than to teach... do your job and teach smh
I suggest reduce his 3 point shooting to 8 times per game, If his accuracy below 30 percentage, he cannot shoot anymore. Just like other team will give their bench to play, if they have hot hands they will keep in the court to play
I will admit .. . Most of the Rockets watch their shots go in or miss before they move out of the shooting pose Rocket River
Harden 3-point games in the last week and a half after breaking slump. 6-14, 7-15, 5-10, 4-11 and a couple bad nights. He's not been as bad as yall are making it. At least he's out of the month of Jaurary. The point is if he starts like 1-9 he should stop shooting and drive more. That is the key to beating the LA teams. Remember the warriors series where he was really good after game 1 because he put his head down and was aggressive.
The step back threes become a bit predictable. Everyone watching it knows that's what he is going to do. I will argue, yes- shooters go through slumps, but his slump is not solely attributed to form and legs. The defense guards him better on the perimeter. Care to explain? It's ok to disagree but do appreciate your thoughts.
No. He just needs to stop being stubborn and heal. F' the meaningless all star game. Happy he got selected... now send the league a hallmark card and get yourself ready for the hardest push for play off seeding since the last year with Dwight. Get some tapes rolling and see what changed. Aim for perfection and figure out what needs to be done.
His playoffs 3pt shooting: 2016- .310 2017- .278 2018- .299 2019- .350 He shot his best in 2015 (.383) but he wasn't doing as many stepbacks and not as many 3s overall. 6.3 per game in the playoffs that year
I appreciate the thoughts that he shoots ok on the stepbacks in the season as the stats show - so he should keep doing that Here is my counter: 1) In the past 10 games or so, his step backs are clearly not what they were at the beginning of the season. 2) More problematic is that he almost invites defense so he can pull off a stepback three or even a 4 point play. The frustrating thing about that is it's predictable and he is making it unnecessarily more difficult. You don't work the whole clock so you can take a step back three. The analogy of Kareem's skyhook and Hakeem's dream shake is way off IMO. Those are money moves that bite the opponent on an insurmountable advantage - Kareem's release point and Hakeem's footwork. But Harden's step 3 relies on his accuracy to hit them, not exactly an insurmountable advantage. 3) We are running small now. Contested 3 is just a bad shot, more so when we lack rebounding. Since the lane is now empty, he ought to take a better shot there. I came to the point that he may noot 100% stop taking the stepback 3, but the stepback 3 should not be his first or even second option at this point. It should be more like a 4th or 5th option, primarily preserved when he has to make something happen out of nothing.
So you are going to change and restrict even more weapons of the greatest offensive player since Wilt Chamberlain. Brilliant!
Obviously morey can't tell harden how to play but this is analytics fault. This started happening after 2014.
