I like this list. I'm really hoping this is more than just Morey doing flexibility magic.

This is what I'm hoping for. Something better than Iggy.

And this is only looking at players making more than Nene. You look at the players below that $10 million line:

    Jon Henson $9.7 million
    Taj Gibson $9 million
    Wayne Ellington $8 million
    Demarre Carroll $7 million

I think any of these guys could offer the same production as a 36-year old Iggy in their own specialist way, without the $17 million contract and without the "brand name".

    If anything,

The right G league players could do the same. House is not player of value down there

Yep... which is the basis for the nene contract... counts as 10M - but they can waive him and only pay the vet min part of it (2.5M?)...

which is why I thinks its ridiculous to reduce their bill and give asset(s) such as House...

If we were to give equally crappy guaranteed contract(s) for Iggy - then that would justify a sweetener... picks or House, etc...

but if we're gonna whittle down their expenditure regarding Iggy (by sending ng contracts they can waive and partially eliminate) - then why would we add benefits such as House or picks to it - they already got paid to take the contract by GSW...

Obviously Grizz is gonna try to move Iggy sooner rather than wait until January... but I think DM is figuring if Memphis is still sitting on Iggy when Nene's contract becomes tradeable... then he's gonna be like "take the savings with these ng contracts - or eat the entirety of Iggy's deal... but I'm not throwing anything of value into the mix..."

edit: I stand corrected... according to @Corrosion - Non-guaranteed contracts DO NOT count for salary matching purposes - Only Guaranteed Money and "likely bonuses" count.

Right and those G league players have as much of a chance to play significant minutes in the playoffs as I do. The purpose of trading for a vet is because they’re vets. A Marcus Morris or a Taj Gibson has played significant minutes in the playoffs during their career. MDA would never trot out a young or G league player unless he’s forced to.

The creative way he uses the cba i've only ever seen done in one other sport before. He takes the whole the letter of the law in spite of the meaning to such ludicrous levels.

The answer to that question has and always will be NO.

Coach played House after a few weeks of being back on the team..

You’re right he does have a very tight rotation. (It’s about trust not origin). This is one of coach’s shortcomings, IMO. He doesn’t play the youth in the regular season so he doesn’t trust them / know there abilities therefore he can’t make adjustments with the different skill sets he has on his bench. It seems at times we only need 8 players on the whole roster because all that he plays year round —> more Harden... Tucker’s playing time is ridiculous and that is on coach.

We don’t need named veterans we need role players that play within their roles.

I agree on your last point but who out of the list of guys I posted haven't played within their roles? The Iggys, Taj Gibsons, Bobby Portis', Marcus Morris' of the world knows their place on the totem pole and can perform as asked.

Has Morey been fortunate to have hit on a few G-League players? Yes but that kind of luck is not sustainable. It's similar to Morey's penchant for trying to find a diamond in the rough every offseason--it's been hit and miss. These next few seasons are critical because we still have our best players in their prime. It'd be a disservice to them if we didn't try to bolster our roster with guys that have been to the playoffs.

I feel like "Icky" was the better play here.

Really? I dont know how I could have missed that... I thought NG contracts get traded all the time - and immediately waived to save the money by the incoming team...
Wow... thats a fundamental piece of the puzzle I somehow misconstrued... my bad....

He played through high school. I think we was an old school back to the basket post and if I remember correctly was supposedly decent.

What level did you play at?

You’re a little new so you may have missed the years and years and years of posters spouting the nonsense that Morey doesn’t value chemistry or really know ball because he didn’t play at any sort of high level.

Just a joke I like to use when Morey once again proves how damn good he is at what he does.
