Eh, don't much care for these guilt-by-association or inherent-hypocrisy stories. Too much revolves around the particulars of this guy's case, which we're not going to get a clear picture of. Besides, do I want a guy who'd drop his friends when they become politically inconvenient? I'd consider that a character flaw.

Anyway, Carson has enough rope to hang himself with already, and he's doing an admirable job. Really, investigative reporters digging into his past are wasting their time piling on.

Largely agree with this post in general. However, liberals are more open to realizing that to one degree or another they have this bias., while as we see from this forum conservatives are more likely to claim no bias/racism, claim that the main problems are "political correctness" and reverse discrimination.

Also the differences in what you refer to as merely policy are the result of different levels of bias or racism. The policy choices then interact with the biases. Decrease food stamps, keep wages low, no subsidized child care, no raising the the minimum wage, destroy unions for unskilled jobs, cuts in free health care and mental health care. These type of policies lead blacks and latinos to be poorer with the types of pathologies/ lifestyle that all races have when experiencing such economic and health stress.

There's many kinds of ways that prejudice manifests itself:

    • Name calling
    • Intimidation
    • Systematic
    • Discrimination / Marginalization

I don't care about name calling which is the PC junk that conservatives try to use as the definition of what people are fighting against. It's more of an issue for young kids who can be influenced by that so it's important to work that stuff out in environments of children, but there isn't much you can do about kids using racist remarks against other kids.

Intimidation is a real issue - and the problem is that conservatives tend to lump it in with name calling. You can see that by how you have guys on this board defending use of the swastika as just free speech and not an act of intimidation.

Systematic refers to things like our criminal justice system and policies. It's the role that gov't plays. This is what is meant when some black people say they can't be racist (and I think it's erroneous). Because they are saying that racism is systematic, and other groups don't have the system stacked against them. It also refers to the inertia that gets passed down from generation to generation. The believe that the american dream is real but only obtainable by certain people.

Discrimination and Marginalization is the one both Liberals and Conservatives are guilty of. Liberals can especially be prone because you can support equal treatment under the law but personally have a bias which results in discrimination or marginalization. Example of this is how resumes with a foreign sounding name get passed over for a white one.

Again largely agree. Claim there was no meaningful difference between say Dubya and Gore or liberal or conservative? I hope not.

An example from my own life. About 30 years ago I worked for a job shop i.e. temporary agency for technical personnel as a recruiter. My redneck engineer boss from good ol A & M told me to just trash all the resumes from Indians, Asians and Middle Eastern types as that is not what Houston employers wanted. I ignored his advice and most of the money I made for him and for me in the roughly six months I worked there was placing just such well qualified experienced folks with large Houston employers.

My only point is that republicans don't have a monopoly on racism - there are plenty of liberals who are guilty too. And plenty of blacks as well.

Agreed. There was a movie recently "Black and White" with Kevin Costner. In the movie he had a good line. more or less "Yes, I have an immediate reaction to a black person. Can't help it, but what counts is not my first thought, but my second and third thought and then what if anything I do about it."

Liberals are the most racist people out there... Especially the black ones. Just look at how they attack Ben Carson.

The attacks on Carson are because he says crazy and ignorant things, and have nothing to do with race.

Or do you believe that the pyramids were grain storage facilities? Do you believe that all of the signers of the Declaration of Independence had zero experience at holding an elected office? Do you believe that Obamacare is as bad as slavery?

Jeez, Carson is the only one responsible for the flak he's getting.

Except that the guy that is drawing the most criticism for his attacks on Carson.... is the front runner for your party. Just listen to what he says...there isn't a big enough lol.gif I can embed to express the hilarity that the GOP has become. Using an analogy with a chid molester?!? Jesus.

I can't embed the video so you'll have to click the link:

He said liberals are the most racist.

It's perfectly fine for trump to be a little less racist.
