Changes in Austin over the past 15 years. On another note it's 1:38PM on a bye day and UT has committed 7 penalties already.
Remember that time when the Rockets lost to the Warriors and then Les, Morey and Dantoni had a meeting with the players about respecting Clutch when he fired the t shirt cannon
Personally I couldn’t care less whether they sing The Eyes or not. But think it’s an issue for some of the big time donors and well money talks. I’ve always subscribed to the winning cures all theory but unfortunately I haven’t been able to put that to the rest.
TIFWIW, Inside Texas put out a pretty lengthy article on the coaching situation. In sum, big time donors currently sitting on their wallets, UT President Jay Hartzell is open to Urban, buy out money will be there, mid season firing is on the table.
I keep reading and hear a lot about Texas luring a major coach to replace Herman and that money isn't really an issue. I just am not so sure it is as great a job as it has appeared to be in the past. I know that there is money because there are boosters and wealthy alums. However, the Big XII is not a great conference to be in like it was many years ago..... the SEC is taking lots of talent out of Texas, and for kids that want to stay in Texas and be in the best conference, there is TAMU. There is the ACC where there is Clemson, and Florida State always turns it around. The Big XII is at best the third best conference, and not that far from being the fourth best conference. As for UT, they were paying Strong to go away, now they would be paying Herman to go away...... How many great coaches really want to get into that? Is the UT job really all that great at this point? The Longhorns are like two games over .500% since Mack Brown left. I am not sure Herman can manage a program as large as UT, where the head coach is not about X's and O's but essentially being a CEO that can hire the right people....... but there are a number of better jobs just in the SEC that UT at this point.
At the end, UT is still a true blue blood job that can throw almost unlimited resources at you. Are there better jobs? Ya there are but question is whether they'll be open. USC maybe? They don't seem to be a better job based on your criteria. Auburn maybe? OU if Lincoln takes a shot in the NFL? Does he wait another year? Don't forget that Bama went through 4 head coaches after Gene Stallings. Hell their best coach ended up leaving Bama for A&M. They went 17 years without a NC and a decade without a SEC Championship. But timing just happened to be on their side among other things. Hopefully it'll be on ours.
While true, it's been that way for a long time - and yet the last 3 coaches they hired were the head coaches at North Carolina, Louisville, and Houston.
Right but let's not act like Strong and Herman weren't the next guys up. Don't forget Herman had agreed to take over at LSU until Charlie crapped the bed in Lawrence. But there's really only a few options when looking for coaches right? 1. Up and coming G5/lower P5 HC (Franklin from, Kelly from Cincinnati, Herman, Strong, Mullen, Fleck, Norvell) 2. Hot shot coordinator from P5 (Day, Riley, Kirby) 3. Poach from big time P5 program (Fisher, Taggert) 4. HC looking to get back in (Spurrier, Saban, Urban, Harbaugh, Brown, Urban again? Petersen?) I'm guessing they'd rather not go Route 1 and don't see them handing over the keys to a coordinator with 0 HC experience. So that leaves maybe going after a James Franklin type or going all out for Urban. Chris Petersen would be my 2nd choice but don't see anyone moving the needle except for Urban.
