kuzma underperformed but still has upside. Green can still defend. Gordon gives lakers a third option who can also defend.

If Eric Gordan has a shitty year again, his trade value will be the same now and at the trade deadline.
If Eric Gordan starts next season on a good note, we won't have to sell low like we did with CP3 at the trade deadline.

 

I don't think there was any rational person saying, "Oh good, we extended Eric Gordon to a big multi-year contract!" last year. This deal had very minimal upside coupled with monumental downside given his injury history, inconsistent play, and age. I'm not sure what Morey and Tilman were thinking when they did this, but having his contract on the books for the next 3 seasons is a huge detriment.

 

Morey was thinking several things. First, Gordon fits the system they run and fit the head coach. Second, Morey made a number of efforts to get player contracts to deal at a later date to get around the cap line and TF stopped him at every effort. TF was fine with extending Gordon, and he can always be dealt as an over paid Gordon is better than nothing and can be moved for players that are better than nothing.

Also, keep in mind that Gordon was coming off a bad injury and surgery. He was up and down in the playoffs but he was noticeably quicker. I expect him to play a lot better this season with proper time to recover and train. I say that as someone that has never been a huge Gordon fan.

 

As for the article, if the Rockets attach assets to move Gordon for the purposes of saving money, they we have a lot bigger issues than Eric Gordon.

 

I would be all in for that! Although I'm not sure if Lakers would do it as Gordon is like 8 years older than Kuzma?

James Harden is arguably the best player in the world and is 31 years old. Russell Westbrook and Eric Gordon are about to turn 32 years old...... Covington is 30 and PJ Tucker is 35. When you have a team as old as the Rockets, and with someone as good as Harden; you go all in or you tear it down. Any deviation of that is a waste.

Of course, but if the Rockets trade him for expiring contracts, then we know it was just a case of saving money.... and that is a problem with a team like the Rockets as currently constructed.

We take on risky young/injured height in exchange for our known talent. Gordon would probably look pretty good to a team like Orlando that doesn't have a ton of guards that can just go out and score. Gordon's 50 point game might help entice them for this trade.
