    https://www.forbes.com/sites/rahath...ckets-this-offseason-is-an-eric-gordon-trade/

“The best bet for Houston’s offseason is a trade of Gordon to lower total team salary. They’ll almost certainly need to attach a sweetener in the deal—such as House or a future pick—to make a deal palatable for the recipient team given Gordon’s poor play last season. Such a construct is certainly not what the Rockets had in mind last summer when they agreed to the long-term extension. Regardless, the team can’t expect to be competitive when operating under an artificial self-imposed hard cap and allocating over $16 million to a player who was one of the worst in all of basketball during the regular season.

The hope is that the Rockets can receive back multiple players with at least one of them providing above average production. Not ideal at all and not exactly cause for optimism, but such has been the state of affairs for the Rockets and Gordon over the past year.”

Trade him for kuzma and Danny green

kuzma underperformed but still has upside. Green can still defend. Gordon gives lakers a third option who can also defend.

Let's pray last season was an outlier bad year for Ego.

    His contract is unmovable.

I'm on the same boat. Haven't we learned from moving on too quickly from Chris Paul?

If Eric Gordan has a shitty year again, his trade value will be the same now and at the trade deadline.
If Eric Gordan starts next season on a good note, we won't have to sell low like we did with CP3 at the trade deadline.

I don't think there was any rational person saying, "Oh good, we extended Eric Gordon to a big multi-year contract!" last year. This deal had very minimal upside coupled with monumental downside given his injury history, inconsistent play, and age. I'm not sure what Morey and Tilman were thinking when they did this, but having his contract on the books for the next 3 seasons is a huge detriment.

Morey was thinking several things. First, Gordon fits the system they run and fit the head coach. Second, Morey made a number of efforts to get player contracts to deal at a later date to get around the cap line and TF stopped him at every effort. TF was fine with extending Gordon, and he can always be dealt as an over paid Gordon is better than nothing and can be moved for players that are better than nothing.

Also, keep in mind that Gordon was coming off a bad injury and surgery. He was up and down in the playoffs but he was noticeably quicker. I expect him to play a lot better this season with proper time to recover and train. I say that as someone that has never been a huge Gordon fan.

As for the article, if the Rockets attach assets to move Gordon for the purposes of saving money, they we have a lot bigger issues than Eric Gordon.

I would be all in for that! Although I'm not sure if Lakers would do it as Gordon is like 8 years older than Kuzma?

Love the way the author throws Danuel House into the mix as a "sweetener," as if House wasn't a relatively productive player who actually started for us for a stretch.

We are hitting up against a wall. You can't go all-in every year.

He writes the RED94 blog, he's actually a pretty good analyst and more importantly, a Rocket fan, unlike most of the media.

Morey has to add 2 future Firsts because Gordon plays only 36 games last year 50%.
    Kuzma = one First

James Harden is arguably the best player in the world and is 31 years old. Russell Westbrook and Eric Gordon are about to turn 32 years old...... Covington is 30 and PJ Tucker is 35. When you have a team as old as the Rockets, and with someone as good as Harden; you go all in or you tear it down. Any deviation of that is a waste.

The Rockets have only really gone "all out" for one season, last year.

"Eric Gordon wanted $16,000,000 per season. Daryl Morey said 'no, Mr Fertitta won't pay that'. The next day Brandon Rosenthal, Eric's agent, returned to visit Tilman Fertitta and Daryl Morey, only this time he took Luca Brasi with him. And within an hour, he got Tilman Fertitta to sign a contract paying Eric Gordon $18,000,000 per season."

    "How did he do that?"

"Luca Brasi put a bowl of Landry's gumbo in front of Tilman Fertitta and Rosenthal said either Luca makes you eat that bowl of gumbo with no access to medical care afterward, or you sign this contract."

Next year will be the first year to go all in.
Westbrook 3pt is only 25% season average.

Of course, but if the Rockets trade him for expiring contracts, then we know it was just a case of saving money.... and that is a problem with a team like the Rockets as currently constructed.

Eric Gordon and Danuel House Jr for Mo Bamba/Aminu/draft pick.

We take on risky young/injured height in exchange for our known talent. Gordon would probably look pretty good to a team like Orlando that doesn't have a ton of guards that can just go out and score. Gordon's 50 point game might help entice them for this trade.

    Yeah, that phone conversation:

Lakers GM: "Why? What's wrong with him?"

Morey: "Nothing, we just didn't use him correctly. Now can we say it's a done deal and do the paperwork?"

Lakers GM: "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute. What does this remind me of? This is all straight from 'Moneyball', that line was from 'Moneyball', oooooooooh, you sneaky ****." (click)
