Reggie Miller and a lot of these old farts want us to believe that they could score 40-50 points in today’s NBA which is a bunch of bullshit. Hakeem, however, is one of the rare few that if you dropped his prime version in today’s game he would still dominate.

Exactly. Dream was a more versatile version of Giannis. And unlike Antetokounmpo, Hakeem could shoot from range.

Not sure why Mutombo is specifically mentioned, but I'll tell you this: had the 1994 Nuggets beaten the Jazz, we would've a lot harder series and it could've easily gone 7 games. The regular season series we lost 3-2, granted the last one came at the very end and we didn't even play a lot of main guys, but still. Having seen 3 out of 5 of those games in recent years, judging thus not only from the boxscore, final score but from the eye test that we struggled against them.

Guards was about even with dynamic trio of Abdul-Rauf, Pack & Stith and our Sam, Kenny & Max. Both Stith and Max strong defensive guards, neither really got going. Pack a very well defensive guard and Abdul-Rauf with the shooting touch to offset Pack's reliance on fast breaks with his poor shooting touch. We know Kenny struggled with pesky defenders, as he didn't have a good game the whole series, but Sam would've stepped up like he did against NY. Abdul-Rauf could've gotten hot against Kenny, he had 3/4 solid games.

LaPhonso Ellis vs. Thorpe was a great battle and Mutombo got away with a lot and protected that rim, so outside of Dream who was always able to go a bit further out, we would've struggled inside with our bigs and wings Horry & Elie, who both didn't really do great. The 3pt shot would've been important since they had more physical bodies in total with Hammonds, Rogers and big ass Brian Williams off the bench vs. Herrera and the likes of Bullard and Jent. Reggie was always consistent for them. Dream for us, so we probably would've edged them out, but I wouldn't have written them off.

 

Hakeem’s athletic fluidity always made him look smaller. Big guys just don’t move like that! Not to mention the purity of shot, the defensive timing, the handles, the will to persevere...

I dont really understand all this Giannis and Hakeem comparison.

Hakeem is one of the most clutch playoff performers in the history of the game. He was a game changer in playoffs even in the second year of the league when he went to the Finals.

2nd year Hakeem with good supporting cast eliminated Show time Lakers and took Celtics, one of the best teams in the history of NBA, to 6 game sin the finals. in his 6th and 7th year in NBA, with good supporting cast, has been shut down and unceremoniously eliminated in the playoffs.

Hakeem was a far more skilled player, even in his early years. Early years Hakeem would run circles around Giannis. A prime Hakeem was a completely different animal.

Hakeem carried a team offense in playoffs. Giannis is still learning to carry his own offense in playoffs.

Hakeem dominated the post on offense and defense with a rare combination of strength and skill. Giannis tries to do it with brute force.

Giannis tries to bully his opponents. He wasnt going to have any success trying to bully Hakeem.

A more apt comparison is Giannis vs Pippen.

 

While you all may see greatness, I see way too many inefficient mid-range shots. Does he not know that 3 is worth more than 2?

 

Always wondered why good quality highlights from the 90s are so hard to find on YouTube. I know they exist from live games we saw at the time and flashbacks we see on TV. The Last Dance also had great looking footage.
