No, it’s a dick move by Fertitta. Mike D’Antoni handled himself with class during his time with the Rockets. The least Fertitta can do is pick up the phone, explain his desire to go separate ways and thank him for his service to the organization.

If anyone is getting let go from a company, their boss should have the guts to tell them that in person or over the phone. Being a business owner doesn’t give you the right to treat your employees like crap and say “it’s just business” afterwards.

People who want JVG have completely forgotten the Yao-McGrady years.

JVG was the epitome of no adjustments, "play harder", no offensive creativity, etc.

JVG was absolutely abysmal in the playoffs and he had no clue how to defend the modern offense.

And that was in the 90's-00's.

I don't think it's about willing to spend, the fact that we traded for Westbrook and reupped Gordon shows that he is willing to spend money.

I think he is just an owner who thinks he can change things by sheer force of will or using methods brought in from outside business.

I think he is just full of himself.

People can change. His philosophy back then was based on the style at the time.

The way he announces does not convince me that he's changed, always lamenting loudly and vociferously about how the great the game USED to be played.

And the Rockets problem is not defense, this Rockets team can play elite defense when motivated.

The problem is offensive adjustments in the playoffs.

JVG was not a good coach in the playoffs, even when he had Yao and McGrady in their primes prior to injuries.

And if everyone wants a HC who plays and develops young talent, that is not JVG either. JVG absolutely loves his older vets.

Tilman getting this team was the start of this franchise's downfall

MDA should've been fired after that debacle.

That said, firing his coaching staff the year before was a cunt move that went beyond just words and posturing.

Ferntits is cancer. Dude should STFU and do business the way he means it instead of lying or trolling all the time. You have a problem either way he coaches? Find out how you can fix it! GTFO those CNBC appearances. Not gonna help there.

What does he a want...a Muppet job on Fox news?

I want a championship org. You can shove those Landry's vouchers up your lying mouth

In this country, that would put him on the track towards being President.

Not surprising the team is like it is. MDA obviously reacts with emotions and stubbornness and Harden too likes to sook. Good riddance to the man, you'd think someone his age would be used to d******d owners.

I don't know, but it's not like Tilman actually fired D'Antoni in a rude or cowardly manner. He just didn't give him an expected phone call and D'Antoni presumed he was going to be let go and quit. We'll never know if Fertita was actually going to fire D'Antoni.

But getting a new coach is a step in the right direction no matter how messy this went down. I just hope that we're in a better position to compete next year for a championship.

Fertitta didn’t even have the decency to call D’Antoni the day after the season ended and discuss his fate. He absolutely handled the situation like a coward. Notice how the story says D’Antoni spoke to all the players and others in management (presumably Morey and Brown) that evening after the Rockets were eliminated by the Lakers. Not only did Fertitta not speak with him that night, but he had plenty of time to call D’Antoni before the Rockets’ plane departed Orlando and never did. Also, considering the only contract Fertitta offered D’Antoni during the season was a one-year, 2.5-million contract (far below NBA standards) and publicly used D’Antoni’s age against him in negotiations, I find it highly unlikely that Fertitta had any interest in retaining D’Antoni.

As much as I like JVG as a person - like @D-rock mentioned - did everyone forget his time here? Personally not super thrilled with any of the options and hoping Morey goes rogue for better or worse.

Word. He obviously was not the coach that took James over the top. Ferreira May be right about needing someone with a killer attitude. I Have a gut feeling Sam Cassel could be that person.

can't imagine why you'd rehire any coach that isn't a clear and obvious upgrade. old rockets coaches, or old any coaches.

Im not super thrilled about the idea of Ty Lue, Mark Jackson, JVG, Nate McMillan, etc. Give me an amazing up and coming assistant.

Granted, there is the possibility that Harden/Westbrook trample all over said "rookie", but that'd be on them, then. They don't have time to **** with coaches like that.

I know it was somewhat tongue-in-cheek but i like the idea of an African American coach, maybe a former player. Cassell. Jerry Stackhouse. Tim Duncan.

So D'Antoni wanted Tilman who is busy trying to con people with his crappy food businesses and cheesy casino's to call him after he lost. Did he want a hug too? Riiiight.... I mean I would be glad that my boss took the time to calm down and think collectively before calling after I f'ed it up.
