On a serious note I do not really get the overwhelming attraction of the Yankees to players like Cole.

He is from California, if he really just didn't want to be in Houston he could have played in California for almost the same money.

With the Yankees he is just another of the big free agents they sign every 3-4 years. The fans have no real attachment to him. The expectations are not realistic. He isn't friends with any of the guys and there are no relationships. If he struggles he will just be booed. He really won't even be park of Yankee lore unless he runs off 2-3 Cy Young awards with them.

It is the same crap A-Rod with through with Jeter on that team. No one in NY gives a **** about A-Rod.... or Pujols in Anaheim. He went from the most popular athlete in arguably the history of St. Louis to the fat guy in Anaheim they have wanted gone for half a decade.

Pretty damn good and accurate post man. I don't understand it either with the lore of the Yankees. Like you mentioned, the Angels were pretty damn comparable on money they would have been able to offer Cole. It's not to say hey , don't take more money, but at least kind of think it through before going to the circus that is the New York fanbase, media and city in general.

But he was dominant to start 2018. He doesn’t necessarily have an MO as a slow starter.

or from a different point of view, he’s been more of an underachieving dissapointment for most of his career minus 1 3/4’s of a year in Houston...

I agree with all of this except for the fact the Yankees are strong contenders for awhile and the Angels are not.

Maybe he wants to win now?

True, but with the Angels, he'd get to play with Mike Trout, and once Old Albert's $$$ is off the hooks in 2022, and Justin Upton the year after, more space opens up. And they have some young promising players like Adell. Of course, the "win now" part is key, but man, the Angels have made some bad contracts.

They are the most storied franchise in professional sports, playing in the largest market, and lets face it, the money is rarely equal (even if it close, I think the higher slightly higher value strokes their ego). Personally, I do think I'd rather be a franchise icon than a guy that moves around, but I can see the appeal.

I love New York, which isn't something I ever expected. I don't think I'd want to live there for several years, but I would gladly spend a year or 2 there just to experience it.

Yeah, I mean... reportedly the Angels were 24 or so off from the Yankees offer at under 300 million. Did Cole REALLY need the extra 24? lol. His choice ultimately though.

That theory might actually hold some water if I didn't know Trevor Bauer was a cheesedicked buffoon.

It holds water if you completely ignore the fact that Cole is still using pine tar with the Yankees.

    Also, "cheesedicked buffoon"...quality

Heading into the last month of the regular season, here are the former Astros in the top 120 of mlb in position player fWAR:

    26. OF Teoscar Hernandez
    36. OF Robbie Grossman
    90. OF Ramon Laureano
    107. OF/IF JD Davis
    116. IF Colin Moran

Here are the pitchers in the top 120 of pitching fWAR:
    19. Dallas Keuchel
    62. Jose Cisnero
    89. Elieser Hernandez
    101. Gerrit Cole
    109. Josh Hader

Sure would be nice for Houston to still have 1 or 2 of those outfielders ready to take over for departing free agents.

Orioles now 3 games behind the Yankees. If Baltimore gets hot again, and the Yankees keep playing the way they have been and don't get their reinforcements back, it could happen and the Yanks get shut out of the playoffs. Cherry on top would be the Phillies (with their old manager, Girardi) making it but not Boone LOL.

Disappointed only 1 run was earned but still, a bad outing. He gave up all 5 runs in the 6th inning. First a home run, then after an error and 2 outs, the Orioles rallied big.

    Now only 2 games.

If Cole knew his new team would be 21-19 after 40, both his team and himself marred in a slump as the playoff approach and facing a real possibility of missing the playoffs, if his calculus would have been different when deciding where he wanted to be in 2020.
