jfc this ‘school opening’ roundtable is just another propaganda and kiss trumps ring session. Nobody is saying **** about *how* to open schools safely or how to give funding for it. We already know the negatives about kids not being in class. What we need are solutions that are actually safe.

They even had freakin Kelly Anne get up there and kiss some trump ass. Trump at one point flat out said that school closings is just a ‘political’ move designed to hurt him. That’s all he thinks about.

they don’t give two ***** about safety of kids and educators. They think this is all about re-election and their misguided belief that the economy can be ‘great‘ in November and of course you gotta have the parents at work for that to happen.

This is my biggest gripe with the way we are currently handling everything. We are just passing the "hard decisions" down the chain.

Federal government doesn't want to handle it, so they pass it on to the state government. State government doesn't want to handle it, so they pass it to the businesses - forcing them to make the hard choice of going default on their rent / loans / mortgages or to remain open and possibly contribute to the pandemic.

Same thing is happening to the school system. We are just going to trust that every individual school district and school can come up with a concrete and safe plan against a pandemic that we know nothing about? Bull ****.

What is our biggest hope moving forward for these next 6 months until the vaccine is created? It is becoming more increasingly unlikely that antibodies will exist enough for half a year making herd immunity more unlikely. Are we just hoping, everyone finally realizes wearing masks can help us exponentially?

First, it hasn't been successful in large part because of the man in the White House and that needs to be acknowledged and admitted, as we need a unified federal response and not an abdication to the governors. There needs to be a clear message. We have received none of these at all.

There is a reason the cases are falling greatly in other first world nations and not the USA.... because there is zero unified planning or leadership. NONE.

The money needs to be strategically used. Currently people working full time and making their same salaries have received the sums. They need to go to those industries we need to strategically limit or close like the hospitality.

It is funny, you are asking for what the response team called for before they were disbanded by the President....... and what other leaders have called for.

We need to be unified and clear........ even the owner of the Rockets is complaining about it.

Nothing will change as long as Trump is in office. All we can do is protect ourselves and hope the damage he has done can be in part rectified after he is forced out of office.

    This.

The United States had more resources and influence than any nation on the planet..... had far more than their fair share of experts and the clout to force large companies domestically to act a certain way......... the USA also had the advantage to learn from China AND Europe........ and what happened?

The President reacted late, was not prepared....... then would give press conferences with experts and then later tweet the opposite of what was said at the press conferences caused a split in the citizens....... he then began making confusing comments about cures and opening around Easter and other reckless and false statements that only made the situation worse. He did nothing, strained relationships with governors....... then when the polls slipped he just shoved it all on the governors, refused to release the CDC guidelines and then started meddling in what the states did, by opening up churches and pushing to open up too fast....... then he said and did nothing except say "well learn to live with it".

Just absolute total and complete failure of leadership. Americans are not used to paying the price for anything....... that is to say whoever they elect or whatever they support, the machine that is the USA just keeps on going......... well now some Americans are seeing that there ARE consequences when it comes to emergencies and your leader is weak a poor at his job.

Thank God there hasn't been an all out war like WWI or WWII...... he would find a way to screw that up.

One of my favorite parts of the Federal response was when they told the States to act on their own to get PPE, ventilators, etc...and then began to confiscate them on arrival (to the point that several states were literally sneaking them in at night) and let Jared's buddies sell them back to the States at a premium.

In a just world people will go to prison. I have no expectations of that happening.

Inevitably yes. Its ok and im fine with it. Personally I do not see the advantage of beating a dead horse. Yes, many politicians are handling it poorly and the currently administration needs to go. Some people get solace reminding everyone how poorly the administration is doing. We have known that for 4 years now. But we also have to stop pretending that is the source of the problem and instead a symptom. I have already said the US will change its course come 2021, regardless who is in office.

Wasn't it Maryland or one of the States that actually called out their National Guard and State Troopers to protect their supplies so the Feds couldn't steal them? I need to research and remember this.

LONDON (Reuters) - Scientists warned on Wednesday of a potential wave of coronavirus-related brain damage as new evidence suggested COVID-19 can lead to severe neurological complications, including inflammation, psychosis and delirium.

A study by researchers at University College London (UCL)described 43 cases of patients with COVID-19 who suffered either temporary brain dysfunction, strokes, nerve damage or other serious brain effects.

The research adds to recent studies which also found the disease can damage the brain

"Whether we will see an epidemic on a large scale of brain damage linked to the pandemic – perhaps similar to the encephalitis lethargica outbreak in the 1920s and 1930s after the 1918 influenza pandemic – remains to be seen," said Michael Zandi, from UCL's Institute of Neurology, who co-led the study.

Some refuse to see it though. I can not understand how you can ignore all of the statistics, things the administration says without a reason going against medical advice then resulting in those said statistics.

Since Sweden’s approach (pretty much didn’t shutdown anything) has came up in this thread a number of time... an update on it.

Death is multiply times more than their neighbor. Economy downturn is the same. Their approach gain nothing except more death.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/07/business/sweden-economy-coronavirus.html

In short, Sweden suffered a vastly higher death rate while failing to collect on the expected economic gains.

The coronavirus does not stop at national borders. Despite the government’s decision to allow the domestic economy to roll on, Swedish businesses are stuck with the same conditions that produced recession everywhere else. And Swedish people responded to the fear of the virus by limiting their shopping — not enough to prevent elevated deaths, but enough to produce a decline in business activity.

Here is one takeaway with potentially universal import: It is simplistic to portray government actions such as quarantines as the cause of economic damage. The real culprit is the virus itself.

My aunt passed away this morning from the coronavirus. She began seeing some symptoms on July 4th; yesterday she was struggling to breathe so they called 911 and took her to the urgent care. She was diagnosed with double pneumonia. They had to call several hospitals to find an open ICU bed before finding one at MD Anderson. She passed early this morning.

I'm not writing this post for your sympathies but rather as a reminder that the coronavirus is still very much real and deadly. It was infuriating opening twitter last night to see the President brag about the lack of deaths while my aunt was struggling to survive it. I hope everyone is still taking this seriously and taking the proper precautions.
