It seems that the worse you were at basketball, the more you get rewarded in NBA staffing positions.
Why do these guys get better jobs than their All-Star peers?

    1. Jacques Vaughan - Head Coach of New Jersey Nets - Career average - 4.5 ppg.
    2. Luke Walton - Head Coach of Sacramento Kings - Career average - 4.7 ppg.
    3. Rick Carlisle - Head Coach of Dallas Mavericks - Career average - 2.2 ppg.
    4. Terry Stotts - Head Coach of Portland Trailblazers - drafted by Houston Rockets - did not play
    5. Scott Brooks - Head Coach of Washington Wizards - Career average - 4.9 ppg.
    6. Billy Donovan - Head Coach of OKC Thunder - Career average - 2.4 ppg
    7. Rob Pelinka - GM of Lakers - played college basketball
    8. Steve Kerr - NBA genius - Career average 6.0 ppg
    9. Danny Ainge - GM of Boston Celtics - Career average 11.5 ppg.

    Compare with

    1. Allen Iverson - former player and coach at BIG3 - Career average - 26.7 ppg.
    2. Baron Davis - struggling to get work - Career average - 16.1 ppg.
    3. Ray Allen - at home (?) - Career average - 18.9 ppg.
    4. John Stockton - coaches a woman's basketball team - Career average - 13.1 ppg, 10.5 assists.
    5. Brandon Roy - high school coach - Career average - 18.8 ppg.
    6. Karl Malone - chops wood - Career average - 25 ppg.
    7. Deron Williams - plays golf - Career average - 16.3 ppg, 8.1 assists.
    8. Penny Hardaway - college basketball coach (good for him being at Memphis), but why no NBA position :(

I do sense a bit of a troll in your post as you've listed Jacques Vaughn as white, and Stockton as black... But nevermind that. Why aren't you including:

Nate McMillan - head coach of the Pacers - key player for Sonics
Doc Rivers - head coach of the Clippers - longtime Hawk
Trajan Langdon - GM of the Pelicans - star player in the Euroleague
    Elton Brand - GM of the Sixers - 1st overall pick & 2-time All-Star
James Jones - GM of the Suns - 3-time NBA champion

All of these guys are just way way more qualified than the likes of Allen Iverson lol. I would say don't overthink it. If the guy isn't a GM even if he was an All-Star, chances are he's simply not qualified/capable of doing that job.

While a discussion about bad players having so many good position is one that can be had, this whole OP is filled with mixed messages and race while a factor should not be the main focus.

It is rare that a great player makes a great coach or executive. Guys like Bird and West are exceptions.

In soccer it isn't as rare. This guy was a legendary player and now an excellent coach.

Naw, the poor hiring practices of black men needs to be addressed first.

Michael Jordan amused at Juwan Howard is simply priceless. I imagine he really want to give Howard a nice wedgey before kicking him in the ass as a makeup of solidarity.

I've always been under the impression that there's almost no correlation between coaching and who was a good player, in almost any sport.

Wayne Gretzky was an awful coach. Michael Jordan has been an awful manager.

Good coaches are the guys who are more cerebral, who study and talk the game fluently. Not the guys who just have massive innate vision (Gretzky) or extreme tenaciousness (Jordan).

I don't foresee Josh Howard becoming a future Mavs head of scouting. I don't foresee Stromile Swift becoming GM of the Grizzlies. And it ain't because they're black. I don't expect to see Adam Morrison or Donatas Motiejunas filling CFO spots any time soon.

I could see Chris Paul, Chris Bosh, Jaylen Brown, Tim Duncan going places in the future, as a counter example. Kobe was probably much more fit for front office roles than Jordan or wanna-be GOAT Lebron.

I heard that great players make pretty poor coaches because they have a hard time understanding why everyone can't be great like them, whereas average players have to scrape and scratch and claw to stay relevent and as such learn how to teach and improve lessor players.

Because really good players that managed their money properly were paid a **** ton of money in endorsements and paychecks. They no longer need to work in an NBA office. If i made the kind of money iverson made i would have figured out a way to make sure i will forever be rich and move to an island surrounded by only beautiful naked women and Whiskey. There is no way I am working if I don't have to.

You can add Ted Williams and Bart Starr to the list of all-time greats who were failures off the field.

Being a good player does not automatically translate into being qualified to do anything basketball related once you retire.

Case in point - nearly every single ex player who commentates.

I think the league is also racist against Latinos, Asians, Jews, Muslims, Spaniards, that played in the NBA as they are not getting any head coaching jobs. You have some that weren't in the NBA, but when it comes to former NBA players, highly discriminated. This needs to stop,

Young coach with potential, paid his dues, comes from the Gregg Popovich tree of coaches. Mark Jackson meanwhile, could not win with Curry/Klay/Draymond. Also insisted on starting David Lee over Draymond.
