Remember when the Astros had at least a 5-7 game lead in the division? How fast it all goes away.

Rangers are about to overtake the Astros. 90% chance the Astros lose the division lead. I blame Parsons for this. This is revenge for the rockets smacking the mavs in may.

When was the last game that the Astros gave Kazmir a cushion lead?

Thing is, Rockets didn't exactly smack the Mavs... only a 4 point diff. Pretty weak considering everything DAL went through that series.

Kazmir has only had one good start in a month.

The Astros have been playing so bad for months on the road that can we really be surprised by the inevitable collapse? You can't play as bad on the road as the Astros have and expect to hold on to a top spot in the division. The only reason they are still in this thing is because the division is one of the worse in mlb. The hitting and the bullpen have been too up and down and inconsistent to objectively feel they were going to get by unscathed and ride into the playoffs. The team is going to have to start playing out of character and win on the road or they will be watching the playoffs from home.

Unfortunately, not too surprised. An offense that's built around feast-or-famine will have a team record that is feast-or-famine at times as well. There are glaring holes in the lineup, we all know that. Sonny Gray was nails last night (with some ump help, but still).

I'm not giving up on them yet. Hopefully the pitching can continue to give us a chance most games...just need to find the right mix on offense. The fact that we're in first place in September still blows my mind. It wasn't supposed to be like this!

Is this really true? Only the A's are terrible, and even there, there's an element of flukiness with them - they are one of only 5 teams in the AL with a positive run differential. Outside of that, all the teams in the division are decent, and there are only 2 divisions in MLB with at least 3 0.500+ teams - ours and the ridiculous NL Central.

Well, lets say then, that we have worse record for a first place team, and other teams are not good enough.

Our division is not worse in baseball, but we have a lot of average teams in our division, including the Astros.

Astros are a .500 team, have been since May. Did anyone think they would be his good? I doubt it. Don't get spoiled, we have a great future. 2017 is when we start becoming the Cardinals of the AL.

Mark Prior and Kerry Wood were going to lead the Cubs to a lot of titles too. I'm going to be upset each and every time we don't make the playoffs whether we were supposed to or not. And especially if it means that Arlington makes it over us.

Over the last 2 weeks the offense hasn't been the problem, the pitching has.

We are losing a ton of close games, it's a really frustrating thing to watch. Run differential is often a good indicator of how good a a team is, and we still have the 3rd best run differential in baseball. We just can't seem to put it all together.

    Starters dominate, offense can't score.
    Offense produces, starters struggle
Starter pitches well, and we score.. bullpen blows it.

It's a young team, with a lot of good pieces in place. We are still in control of whatever happens to us.
