Hmmm...about Prokhorov there is some serious unethical questions in play that make one suspicious about some things. He has made the team pay so much in taxes that the minor owners are debted and he is beginning now to buy them all out to own all the team and the arena. JUST in time that the huge payroll will be off the books. Coincidence?
I'm withholding judgement about whether she can do her job, since there's so little to go on. The only evidence so far is that the employees are confused and that she and Rivers are fighting. That's actually pretty normal when someone new comes in. If there wasn't some conflict, it would just mean that Doc was keeping all the power. I have no idea whether she understands the NBA, but a pedigree isn't necessary. See Luhnow, Morey, et al. Maybe she'll be good, maybe she'll be bad. We'll see. Conflict with Doc is necessary. Otherwise next year he'd promote Austin to the front office.
Since when did Simmons start hating Doc? He hated him his first few years on the Celts (used to rip him constantly) but that changed and he did a 180 when they won the title. Thought I remembered him not being upset when Doc left for the Clippers...
He whined at him during the actual draft after it was announced that Doc was going to the Clippers. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ivers-and-bill-simmons-increasingly-ugly-feud
I regretted having clicked on a TMZ link immediately after I did, so in case anyone else wants to read the article without giving them a click...
lol. I saw this quote by Zucker and couldn't help but chuckle... the lady doesn't back down : When Dale Earnhardt Jr. once attributed sagging auto racing attendance in Southern California to a Hollywood crowd that "could care less," the motorsports executive zinged the famed NASCAR driver. "I don't tell him how to drive his car," Zucker said at the time. "I don't expect him to tell me how to run my racetrack."
If you mean local papers, forget it. They know who butters their bread and tow the line accordingly. This sucks because beat writers literally know everything, but they aren't going to bite the hand that feeds, so reading them is a waste of time.
They feuded in Doc's Boston days indirectly(Simmons was just a sports writer criticizing how his beloved Celts were being coached) but it wasn't until Doc moved to the Clippers that he became more personally aware of Simmons and they actually started sparring directly in social media. There was a BS report with Jacoby a long time ago where Simmons gave a quick rundown of the feud - mostly because Jacoby would rather talk about twitter beefs in the NBA, than the actual NBA....
...that simply not true. Look at Prokhorov - used the team(and Jay Z) to get a new arena built in New York - and suddenly it looks like he will be the majority owner for a real rarity in big cities - a sports stadium. Vivek - easy to criticize for his handling of basketball operations, but be sure to follow the new arena's development. I would bet the team's value jumps considerably once that is in place and it's not just because he's in the NBA - it's because he managed to accomplish one of the most difficult and expensive operations - getting a new arena constructed. ...the team is of value for sure, but you have to look at the big picture - various sponsorship deals with arenas, property values, local TV deals, etc. Think about McDonalds - it's not about how much money they make selling low quality burgers every day, it's about how much money they make on escalating property values.
