Joe Dimaggio & Tony Perez are former winners, and there are some other players that enjoyed good careers like Paul Konerko, Nelson Cruz, Tim Salmons, & others. Most were nobodies though.
The AAA MVP award usually goes to a player who has been there all season, therefore has had a chance to compile the cumulative numbers. The players who are projected to be good big leaguers usually don't spend long there, particularly if they are playing really well. I imagine the vast majority of the winners were 4A players. It's cool, but really means nothing when projecting him forward, if anything it's a bit of a bad omen. When you are playing that well, are Rule 5 eligible, and still don't get the call, the team really doesn't think much of you. Hopefully for him he can carve out a big league career.
Yeah, that's what I was saying. But at the same time, he's leaving catcher open to free agency, and nothing else.
Because Jason Castro will be a FA after next season, and it goes to figure that no catcher in the organization profiles as a starter. He sees a potential starter at every other position currently with the organization.
Dean Deetz is in the midst of a 22-inning scoreless streak for Quad Cities. Also, Michael Freeman has made his way to Corpus, and finally, Greeneville has moved on to the Appalachian League championship series with a 3-1 win over Kingsport.
Appel had a good outing last night, but at this point I can't even get excited about it. He's had a few great outings, then he follows them up with duds.
Wasn't that pretty much the story with Lance as he was coming up? Do we have anyone in our rotation who was clearly dominant when coming up through the minors?
Not really, McCullers consistently overpowered hitters. Aside from getting Lancastered in 2014 he was good. Even there he was striking guys out. VV never struggled anywhere, he just couldn't stay healthy. For a polished pitcher, to struggle across multiple levels is bad. Not that he's a complete lost cause, but at this point if he became a great pitcher it would go against historical trends.
Agree with you and Tellit on Vince I just think there are a ton of great starters who were less than dominant coming up I remember constantly reading on here how Lance would have to be in the pen cause his command would never let him stick as a starter I might be one of the few, but I have high hopes for Appel
The minor leagues is where layers fine tune their stuff. It isn't about having sub 2 ERA, but about getting the tools to ultimately succeed in the majors. I am fairly certain that is Appel pitched how he wanted to, he would have a great Minor league ERA, but the Astris want him to be a MLB staff Ace, not a really good quad A minor leaguer.
