That's the thing, a lot of teams have a couple stars. It's not enough to surround your stars with a bunch of scrubs. The Astros and Rockets have done a fantastic job getting depth, finding value, not giving out bad contracts or making horrendous picks. With Watt, Foster, Hopkins and a good OL, we should be able to surround those guys with solid role players and depth. Instead we're an 8.5 win team again
Just so people know the Colts drafted 21 players between 2nd and 6th round form 2010-2014. The only notables are: TY Hilton (3) Dwayne Allen (3) Colby Fleener (2) Those picks all came in the same draft with Andrew Luck. They were picking at the top of every round and picked one of the best QBs in the league. Give it a break Rick Smith Haters.
The Colts are an awful organization that has been bailed out for nearly 20 years by two draft picks; Peyton and Luck.
It's almost as if they see those rounds as "reaching rounds." They end up taking guys who have a tiny chance of realizing high upside while ignoring the solid, less risky picks
Just giving a little perspective from our main rival in the AFC South The Cowboys have had 24 2nd-6th round picks since 2010 Notables: Sean Lee (2) '10 Demarco Murray(3) '11 Terrence Williams (3) '13
This. That's what having 2 great QBs will do for you. Grigson is awful. Not sure if he takes the same heat as Rick Smith does down here but he should. Awful might be being nice. Who is facing the heat? Coach Chuck Pagano. Reportedly a make or break year and they may fire him after the year.
Well we said C, not F. Two or three years of being legitimate contenders in 14 years is about right for that grade. I like both Bobs. I like most of our players. Now would be nice to get an elite front office
To be a rival with a team, means we have to have some sort of success against that team...However, the Colts have found a way to embarrass our organization since the inception. We are 4-22 vs the Colts...and 0-13 at Indy...We arent a rival...we are their b.tches... Compared to the Titans(11-15) and Jags(15-11)
Whitney Mercilus and Clowney have not exactly been great additions via the first round. It is pretty hard to draft a complete bust in the first round outside of a quarterback or wr. Rick smith gets crap from fans because no one, even after hard knocks, knows WTF he does. They show him making trades without input from BoB. Is that new authority after Kubiak was fired? Without clear delineation of power your argument of not blaming rick smith falls flat.
The Green Bay Packers have had 31 picks between the 2nd-6th round from 2010. Notables: Eddie Lacy (2) '13 Randall Cobb (2) '11 James Starks (6) '10
This has all been explained to them before, and you're absolutely right....but it's not going to do any good. Something deep down in about half the Texans fanbase just loves complaining even if it's not warranted.
It's also why I know for a fact that the same jokers wouldn't have been happy with making the SB just to get blown out like the Broncos did.
What are you ranting about now? We're saying the front office is mediocre and deserves a C grade. What would you grade them?
Its all good... I know Rick Smith isn't the best GM in football, but he sure isn't the worst. A GM can do his job but then the HC has to do his too. We managed to get to back to back divisional playoff appearances in spite of our HC. My trouble wasn't with Rick, but with Kubes. Lets wait and see now with the Clowney class and this years class.
I get that you are saying they deserve a C grade, I'm just pointing out that your reasons for saying that are flawed, there are plenty of legitimately poorly run franchises in the NFL, take a look at them and do a comparison, then hand out grades.
So far the 2014 Texans Draft class was bad... I was all on the bandwagon when the Texans went after Nix, but recently watching his college stuff and what I watched last night...Its NOT even the same player. The dude cant shed blocks...And can NOT stop the run.
Well I certainly agree there are other bad franchises. With a C grade the Texans are roughly middle of the pack front office-wise.
