I would have just put Springer back in the line-up with no rehab stint. I'd take my chances. How much longer are we going to have to wait? Even if he wasn't hitting at his highest level, he'd still be a morale boost just being in the line-up. But, take your time. It may just cost us the division.
So you're allowed to omit 2 out of 5 months (40% of the season), but he's not allowed to omit 41%? Where is the specific line between 40% and 41% of what's acceptable to you?
Good point, but my reasoning is that for 3 months IN A ROW, we are playing .500, and for me that is long period of been average, and each month is been consistent, more or less same number. Remember, this team was "suppose" to be a .500 team, so maybe we are what we are? Or we could be better with a few changes??? We have Kazmir, Fiers and Gomez now, so maybe that "expectation" should be better now, so why continue with .500???? Maybe Hinch could do better? I like one argument, Springer is not in the lineup. Maybe Springer is the "real" leader of the team at this moment, not Correa nor Altuve, but him. Maybe taking Springer out of the lineup is like taking Trout to the Angels or Donalson to the Blue Jays. That is a good reason. But not giving me 60 percent of the games in DIFFERENT times. Just a question. Do you think that for a playoff hunt and playoff run, is better to play .800 in the last month and a half or .800 first month and a half of the season? Who is more dangerous right now, Blue Jays or Astros? The first month and a half i tell you Astros no doubt, and now??? They have SAME record more or less.
it's obvious our players don't hit well and can be very streaky aside from the obvious players. we almost loss 100 games last year and have the previous years, and finally this year we are currently in 1st this late in the season. just enjoy it and stop b****ing. we'll get better next year and still have a good farm with one of the best pitching rotation in the entire league. the future is bright
It's better to get in the playoffs and then play .800 in the playoffs. And have a rotation built for the playoffs. Regardless of the first/last months of the regular season.
My friend, is not b****ing, just baseball argument. You know that baseball is one of the few sports that the defensive player has the ball. That is great because EACH FAN can think while the game goes and make decisions as EACH pitch goes. Throw a curve, why that fastball? Lefty behind, i want a lefty warming up. You look ahead always. Baseball is beautiful because is the sport easier to integrate in and within the game. But, that also brings a lot of arguments on moves, why the lineup? why not pinch hit? why not bring this lefty now? why allowing this guy to continue pitching? ect. That is baseball, and sorry, but that is not b****ing, that is talking and thinking baseball, best sport in the world ( i love football, soccer, bastkball and hockey, nothing against those sports but baseball goes 1st in my book). Now, lets talk about what you mentioned. We have done much better than expected, i was expecting .500, a 83 and 79 record for me was a GREAT SEASON. But now is now, and we the rotation we have, i think we can do better. I agree with you, our lineup is weak, but with Springer, Altuve and Correa, we may do some damage. We need Gomez to hit like he can, and please, be in the 6th or 7th spot. I really believe this team is better than .500, eventough i do agree with you that our lineup struggles, still, with our pitching, they are just to good. So thats why i ask, why .500 for so long? You've mentioned a reason, which is one of my reason, the hitters. But then why Marwin did not play for so long even tough he was hitting? Then another reason for it was Hinch for not using him more on those losing streaks. Also, like i've said before, why use a guy against lefties (he hits .181 vs lefties) instead of righties where he hits .269? and is your best defensive outfielder, plus steals a lot of bases. Is not b****ing, is baseball talk. Also, i do agree with you, Luthnow has made great moves, and the minors is incredible. Yes, we gave a lot in trades, but we had such a great draft this year that those trades are not going to kill us. But yes, i agree with you, part of the reasoning for .500 is the hitters, agreed.
I agree with you, but i also believe that hot teams going into the playoffs are more likely to win, thats why so many wild card teams win the World Series, they are already playing playoff games in the regular season and playing good going into the playoffs. Now, you bring something very intersting, rotation: It looks like we are going on the road first series. I like Kazmir on the road, i would had preferred K at home, but he goes 1st. Then who would you have pitching third at home? McCullers or Fiers/McHugh? Would you go 3 or 4 rotation? Maybe is too early to think about that as we are still in the playoff hunt, but, not an easy decision. The first tough question is who will be number 4, Fiers or McHugh?????
Tell me why Ain't nothin' but a heartache Tell me why Ain't nothin' but a mistake Tell me why I never wanna hear you say Spoiler I want it that way
yep and if we go by this line of reasoning, then it'll be interesting to see if the level of talent and good chemistry can override the lack of experience...so far so good but a daunting task nonetheless imo
Did the playoffs start?... Last year's two World Series teams - the Giants and Royals - went, respectively, (updating records; I misread the BBRef funky, misleading layout) 13-12 and 15-11 in September. It's not about being hot *going into the playoffs.* (And certainly not being hot any time in June, July and/or August). It's about getting hot once the playoffs start. That's all that matters.
Pretty sure no one is allowed to bring any numbers into the argument. Take that back. We're dealing in competitiveness, attitude, and sticktoitivness only. Maybe with some good ol' fashioned heart mixed in
Tuck back in the lineup. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="es" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> lineup: 4 Altuve 5 Lowrie 6 Correa DH Gattis 9 Rasmus 8 Gomez 7 Tucker 3 Valbuena 2 Conger 1 Kazmir</p>— Jose de Jesus Ortiz (@OrtizKicks) <a href="https://twitter.com/OrtizKicks/status/639166642413551617">September 2, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Bingo, i reste my case, no Marisnick tonight, like i said, Hinch does not care if you hit or are in a mini streak, he will SIT YOU DOWN!!!!!! No Marisnick tonight, even tough he hits .269 vs righties.

I don't think it matters at all. Neither KC or San Fran played well to close the season last year. What matters is getting to the playoffs, and getting there as a division winner (preferably with HF advantage). Whether they go 30-0 to start the season and 0-30 to close it or vice-versa, I don't really care.
Actually, SF was 14 and 12 in September, and 16 and 13 in August. Why SF won, they played over .500 at the end, and ONE pitcher carried them. Now, KC did even better, they were 16 and 12 in September. That is 20 over .500 in a year??? If we play 16 and 12 this month, we win the division and we are going on a roll to the playoffs. Actually, I take both records, KC and SF on this month, and i like our chances.
With the ones he has playing, this would be my lineup: 1. Altuve 2b 2. Tucker LF 3. Correa SS 4. Gattis DH 5. Lowrie 3b 6. Rasmus RF 7. Gomez CF 8. Valbuena 1b 9. Conger C
