Whataburger. Which also has a very loyal following.

I think I saw a food documentary where they said the use of high fructose corn syrup was actually a big contributor to our obesity epidemic.

Was talking about this the other day. Whataburger, Shiner and HEB were the other Texas brands we came up with.

    Those are all good ones.

BRILLIANT marketing to appeal to this proudly made in Texas mantra.

Dr. Pepper is a great Texas brand, but they don't market that way.

It is possible the switch from Sugar to HFCS is the problem. I know I like Turkey Hill's all natural simple ingredient ice creams a lot, an they contain sugar instead of HFCS.

I went to the Foodorama here by work during lunch, didn't even think they would have the pint sizes, then saw they had 4 doors filled with the 1/2 gallons and pints. I just bought pint cookies and cream, I've cut off ice cream where I just eat it at parties or just once in awhile at restaurants, so this is my bi-monthly fix of it.

I saw a billboard that said I should Eat More Chikin. Not only was it valuable advice but I learned I was spelling Chikin wrong my whole life.

Yep, they just closed the original plant in Dublin though, so no more real sugar Dr. Pepper, thus they didn't make the cut.

Dr. Pepper didn't close the plant in Dublin (they just are no longer affiliated with the plant after numerous requests by Dr. Pepper for the plant to operate within distribution agreement). There is still real sugar Dr. Pepper. Thus, Dr. Pepper makes the cut.

Say what you will, it's good ice cream, the best by national commercial standards, like Whata is for burgers.
I ate two or three replacement brands this Summer and it just wasn't as good.

I've had some 22% butterfat ice cream in Nova Scotia that was the all time best.
The ice cream at the Dairy Science outlet on the A&M campus was real good and I had a milkshake every day. That's gone now I think.

This thread is making me homesick and hungry. Just flew through IAH B concourse and I always go straight to Shipley's and its now gone.....I was sad but then found whata burger and was happy. Not the same quality at the airport IMO but still damn good.

I wouldn't put Shiner in that group. I would defend the rest to the death, but Shiner is garbage.

    I'd add Lone Star.

Even though they're pretty well spread out across the central to eastern part of the state (there's none west of the I-35 corridor), it doesn't seem to me they're as popular outside of Houston as they are in.
