Racial stuff is all around us and will continue to surround us for the foreseeable future, it is impossible for anyone in the United States (and the world in general) to ignore. The media and the other groups in your post are just making it more blunt and obvious. Your kids likely already observed instances of racism from their peers at school. It has been commonplace since the beginning of mankind for a lot of people to stereotype, discriminate, or be bigoted against ANYONE who is "different" in a way they are unaccustomed to and/or uncomfortable with.

It's better for parents and kids to have an open dialog about differences in race, ethnicity, culture and so on. Teach tolerance of others. Educate them on racial history and why certain groups act the way they do. That will make them better equipped in the future to actually handle instances of bigotry in an appropriate manner. Being ignorant of color and burying their heads in the sand will actually do more harm than good in the long run.

Also, young people being racist is almost always a result of their parents being racist and hateful, and to a lesser extent their immediate surrounding environment being hateful. It's a vicious cycle that is difficult to break.

Being black is a big obstacle to success. It's also called racism. I guess you just see racism as an obstacle that people should shut-up and deal with by working harder. That is probably the only thing someone can do, but it doesn't mean we can't try to change society so that's not the case in the future.

Stop it already! In this day and age everyone has the same opportunity to succeed! If someone who grew up in the wealthy neighborhood and had a better education, sure he might have a step up against someone who didn't have these luxury but to make it racial is just plain stupid.

Did I say that only black people did?

Bobby said that only unsuccessful people whine about race, which it's not true.

I never said it was unique, but this isn't a thread about women or foreigners or LGBT people or whatever other group.

Bobby said that unsuccessful people whine about race which isn't true.

It isn't unique to black people, but the fact that just being born with dark skin means you already come into this world with obstacles to jump is something that should change.

And the way to change society is screaming racism at every instance involving a black victim while ignoring the discrimination possibility when it's someone else?

    Great way for progress.

Says the person that seemingly ignores every instance of racism against black people and continues to argue that it doesn't exist.

    This simply is not true.

There's plenty of studies and empirical data that demonstrate racial bias is alive and well. Can it be overcome? Yes. Is there a disadvantage? Absolutely. And to not recognize that disadvantage is somewhat perplexing. It's a denial of reality.

Who is doing that? Which person is screaming racism while ignoring it when it's someone else?

Sounds like you are taking two different people's actions and turning it into one "group" which ironically is the heart of the problem.

The system is so racist against blacks, that is why an Indian had to pretend to be black to get into med school. SMH

You realize that someone who has "a step up" has more "opportunity to succeed" than someone who does not, right?

Your second and third sentences here are in direct opposition to one another, in many people, this would cause cognitive dissonance, how about you?

I think his point was, this isn't exclusive to race, as some here like to suggest/believe that it is.

A wealthy black kid has more "opportunities" than a poor white kid, for example.

Harvard Bias Study - actually, I'd love for you to take the bias test on race and see what your result is - post here and show us you don't have bias.

There's also the resume study with AA sounding names where same resumes, but the AA named one got less interviews. Longer prison terms for blacks than whites for the exact same crimes.

I mean there's plenty of data points that shows racial discrimination is happening - you just don't seem to want to see it because it goes against the view you have been indoctrinated with.

You're talking to a guy who refuses to believe a black man was pulled over for making direct eye contact with a cop when the cops themselves admitted this happened.

Is that why we have all these angry and fast moving threads about cops and black people all the time?

We have these threads because there is an injustice going on and people care about it.

The reason they get contentious is because we have people who want to stick their head in the ground and say "RACISM CANT EXIST ANYMORE WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT!".

It's sad to see so many people who still have racial bias in them and not even realize it. I wonder if you will ever come to terms with it.

people is plural and those are speech marks, so I am sure you can provide at least two quotes of posters who said this without sarcasm?
