the eighties in all their glory. When MTV was a music station. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7wRHBLwpASw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
There's 1 thing in LA Grange work a damn since they got rid of the whorehouse that inspired that song - Weikel's Bakery, which is the successor to the defunct Bon Ton. They sell kolaches (the genuine kind with fruit, not the Houston kind, which have a different name in Czech that I don't remember). If you hit LA Grange and don't hit up Weikel's, you aren't a real Texan. In fact, they should put that on a sign on the edge of town - "LA Grange: famous for coochie and kolaches."
But, La Grange came well before the eighties. Tres Hombres was easily my favorite ZZ Top record. I still got that LP. I may pull it out and give it a spin.
I'll be there for ZZ Top Saturday as long as the weather is good. Would really like to see BJ Thomas Friday night. Honestly I would not mind seeing ETC on Sunday either. For those that can not make it go La Grange the fake ZZ Top will be at the Washington County fair Sept 17 in Brenham.
I had the double cassette that I bought at one of those spinning racks they used to have at truck stops, one side was Tres Hombres, the other was Deguello. I wore that sucker out.
very true. I was reminiscing about going to the bar specifically to watch music videos when MTV was new, and not avail in my area except by satellite. ZZTop were one of the first to embrace vids and were on heavy rotation. the sharp dressed man vid is pure eighties. Didn't realize Tres Hombres was released in '73. Holy crap I'm old. (but not quite as old as ZZ Top).
I'm glad someone else around here knows what a kolache is. Hruska's in Ellinger is also excellent. There's a ton of great little bakeries in places like Hallettsville, Calvert, West, Boerne, Schulenburg, etc....
I had the same double-LP cassette and it suffered the same fate, but I only wish I'd bought mine at a truck stop. I probably got mine at the Baybrook mall when it was pretty new or some wimpy crap like that.
Been a fan for 45 years, if I were to spin just one ZZ CD it would be Deguello, followed by Rio Grande Mud and then the first album. But I love all of them, Futura is pretty great.
Been a zz top fan since I was a little kid. The chances of being a Rockets fan and a ZZ Top fan are low when You come from a small town in Tasmania, Australia
