LOL at the idea of Mallet getting released and immediately starting anywhere. He has been our system his entire career and started all of 2 games in his career. Maybe you are saying that if he got released this week he could start some teams 4th preseason game.

Anyways there is no chance he is getting released, he will get over this and be back tomorrow.

I think the thing to consider, which somewhat gives him a right to be upset, is that I don't think anyone would have pegged Mallet as the likely more "consistent" QB at the moment. He's thrown all of 79 real NFL passes at this point. Not that Hoyer's played a ton... but that's still about 10% of what Hoyer has done. Same with the number of starts - 2 for Mallet vs. 17 for Hoyer.

I think this is where those of us who are a bit confused, are confused.

I personally don't expect either to be great. Given that, my personal view would be to take a little more risk on the slightly less consistent player who still has more upside and through actual gameplay might get meaningfully more consistent... over the guy who has been consistently what he's been.

That said, it is what it is, and I am at least willing to hope that organizationally somehow Houston is better for Hoyer and he can be a consistent above average game manager.

Not disputing your overall point, but Mallet has not been with the Texans his entire career. Maybe you mean system as in the Patriots/Obrien system being the same...

If he was released he'd be claimed by the Jets and very likely start week 1, if not, week 2. If you're Mallett, why would you trust the Texans after the BS they pulled? They talk Mallett into coming back with the team then they sign some other team's trash and then give him the nod on what was essentially a tie.

If I was Mallett, I'd take my chances starting this season for the Jets.

Last time I checked, Mallett couldn't beat out Fitzpatrick as a Texan. Why would he be able to do it as a Jet? Again, as it was in Houston, Fitz has gone through an entire offseason with a team while Mallett would be getting there late. And Fitz knows the system because he's worked with Chan Gailey before. Mallett's never run a system other than NE/OB. No way Mallett comes in and starts over Fitz. Certainly not immediately. And if Fitz did suck, they'd probably only make a change right about the time Geno comes back.

And what's with you, Bobby? It seems like you consistently crap on every QB out there, like you don't like anyone. But you're a Mallett fan?

He's pot committed to Mallett at this point.

He now knows more than BoB.

Had you checked again, you'd see that Mallett did beat Fitz out during the season....and he would almost certainly be given that job over Fitz for the Jets.

I find it weird that people always suggest that I'm a "fan" of QB's when I suggest that they are a better option than someone that they are a better option than. Last season people were calling me a Fitz fan because I suggested he gave the Texans the best chance to win...in fact, one troll here still does.

Now that I suggest that Mallett gives the team a better chance to win than Hoyer I'm a Mallett fan....SMH. He's got the arm to stretch defenses which will be invaluable when you don't have a run game to start the season. A noodle armed QB plus no run game equals a pretty weak offense.

I suppose you'd prefer Jamarcus to both then?

Mallet never got sacked this preseason and he was the incumbent.

    So he should start.

That's a pretty random comment....and no, obviously not. I really hope you didn't think that was clever.

This is only true if you can't do basic math. It wasn't that hard - releasing Schaub and Kevin Walter would have covered most of it. And if you lose another middle-tier guy to tweak the numbers, the upgrade to Manning more than makes up for it.

Our QB situation is a bigger cluster**** then I thought 4 months ago. On top of that Arian is out. Thank god for our front 7 on defense, the games might be entertaining.

I just remember people b****ing about Fitz a year ago and we went 9-7. And by all accounts, both Hoyer and Mallett have looked better in camp than Fitz did last year.

Still irrelevant though because this team wouldn't have been better than the team that got completely blown out of the water in the SB. At this point there's no reason to bring up Manning as if that would have been the key to winning a SB in Houston....or as if it would even put the Texans in a better situation right now.

Would we all be feeling better if the Texans pulled a 2005 Astros and were humiliated in the championship? Would the same fans talking about Manning today be happy with being on the losing side of the 3rd largest blowout in SB history? No, they'd be questioning the move and talking about how much better the team would be if they had a QB that didn't always choke in the playoffs.

This was less than a year ago.

2 games (1 possibly injured in), one offseason, one training camp and a preseason later...he's the guy!

Grab your popcorn & enjoy. :)

You've come a looonnnggg way on Mallett.

New information causes opinions to change....that plus we aren't talking about Mallett vs Fitz anymore, we're talking Mallett vs Hoyer who isn't even as good as Fitz....which is sad.

If the Texans can get a 6th for a washed up Schaub you don't release Mallett. He'll come back after his tantrum is over and backup Hoyer. If not let him rot out of football without collecting a check.

None of the quarterbacks on the roster are the QB of the future.

Hoyer will outplay what Fitz did with the Texans. Just admit when you're wrong later in the year, and don't flip flop like you did now with Mallett.
