Great win, but I wish they would have saved some of those runs for the rest of this road trip. Spread 'em out a little more evenly and we can win our next 4!
It seems like Yankees getting some criticism over Gomez antics. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you show frustration over your at bat, and flip the bat at your own dugout... that's showing disrespect?? C'mon maaaan.... Also, is there an example of AJ Hinch sticking up for his players? Buster Olney Article on ESPN Spoiler The unwritten rules of baseball are forever fluid, forever shifting, open to interpretations that are often tied to who is winning and who is losing. The Yankees were losing in a big way Tuesday night and Carlos Gomez greatly annoyed them, apparently for the way he reacted angrily after making an out with the score 9-0. Gomez told the Yankees to shut up and the benches cleared, and later in the game, Gomez went deep. Here is a Gomez slide early in the game, which also might have annoyed the Yankees. From Billy Witz's story: "Somebody's screaming from the dugout, and I tell them, 'Why are you screaming?'" Gomez said. "Everybody knows in the league how passionate I play the game. It's not meant to disrespect anybody." … Gomez answered the calls from the Yankees' dugout by saying, "Shut up" several times. He then had words with Yankees catcher John Ryan Murphy and returned to the dugout. "I just told him, 'Play the game the right way,'" said [Yankees manager Joe] Girardi, whose team trailed 9-0 at the time of the confrontation. "They're kicking our rear ends. Show a little professionalism to the pitcher. I know you missed a pitch and are frustrated by it, but I just think it's a little too much." The whole thing seems pretty silly. It's apparently not OK to show frustration after making an out with a big lead. When are you allowed to show frustration? When the score differential is five runs? Six runs? Two? And to review: It's not OK to show anger over making an out in a one-sided score, but it is OK to empty the benches in response to something so innocuous? Is it OK for a manager of one team to lecture a player on the other team about the "right way" to play the game? Knowing how much Joe Girardi cares about his players and backs them, I suspect he wouldn't be particularly enamored of the idea of Blue Jays manager John Gibbons or Angels manager Mike Scioscia, in the heat of the moment, saying something to Alex Rodriguez or Brett Gardner about the right way to play the game. Here's another idea: How about just ignoring Gomez's outward gestures, which have long been outside the norm. This is his ninth year in the big leagues, and he always has been demonstrative: He points, he waves his arms, he yells … he's different. Girardi didn't play that way, and most players don't play that way, but really, when you get right down to it … Who cares? Play your game. Don't worry about how the opponents are playing their game. The Yankees won't win the division if a couple of stars don't start playing better, writes Ken Davidoff. Dallas Keuchel threw the ball well for Houston. George Springer could be back with the Astros in early September, writes Evan Drellich.
Yanks were wrong, and after that Gomez hit a homer, if he starts hitting, we are all going to remember this incident.
Correa not in lineup. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Today's <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> lineup for the series finale at NYY. <a href="https://twitter.com/Collin_McHugh">@Collin_McHugh</a> gets the start at 12:05 pm CT. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Whiff?src=hash">#Whiff</a> <a href="http://t.co/d18sjMtX4u">pic.twitter.com/d18sjMtX4u</a></p>— Houston Astros (@astros) <a href="https://twitter.com/astros/status/636547937816829953">August 26, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Been in a bit of a slump by his standards. Day game after a night game, and facing a very good righty. Correa could use a day, and you still have a capable lefty replacing him.
Kind of weird to click on the game day recap...and the whole article is basically about Gomez vs the Yankees. I do, however, understand the frustrations with Gomez. I was never one for the over-animated reactions to every little thing. He says he's doing it because it's who he is and is passionate about the game. Fine. It's just outside the norm for the most part and it's always going to stir up the other side in certain situations. Basically, he's saying he won't tone it down for any reason because it's who he is and that is how he plays the game. But, other side will see it as disrespectful. I don't particularly care for it as much as he does it but he's on my team so...whatever.
The Brewer fans loved him. I think if he were hitting near his usual average you would probably have a different sentiment about him. He comes off as a brat right now since he has been slumping.
I don't understand this sentiment. Should pitchers never pump their fist in the air when they get a crucial strike-out? Or should they never curse at themselves in their glove when they give up a HR? Don't see the difference at all. Yankees are coming off as huge hypocrites, given the fact that they've got CC in their rotation (or had since he's on the DL now).
Gomez is going to get plunked today. Yankees seem like the kind of punks to go after guys. Will be interesting to see what happens.
pretty funny that in the first game of the series McCann is who Gomez threw out at home to keep it scoreless.
Just a couple weeks away from this lineup: 1. Springer RF 2. Altuve 2B 3. Correa SS 4. Lowrie 3B 5. Gattis DH 6. Gomez CF 7. Rasmus LF 8. Gonzalez 1B 9. Castro C It's really quite a good lineup, with the added benefit that you can move Valbuena in at 1st and 3rd and Gonzalez or Marisnick to left. I really think September 1 is the time to Kut Karter and add Tyler White to the 40 man. Go for it Lunhow!
Sadly, the Astros are probably hoping Carter does what he has the last two years. Get extremely hot for a two month stretch. "September and October" and win us a ring. It could happen
