The problem with the Texans is the managements committee mentality. I'm not one to blame Rick Smith for not being able to build the Texans team into a contender. The way it seems to work in this organization is that it seems as though the Coach has the final final say on player personnel. That should be the other way around, the GM should build the team, and the Coach coaches the team. Yes the GM listens to his coaches but he ultimately makes the final decision. If rumors are true that Rick attempted to get Peyton here back when Gary was here and that he wanted Bridgewater in the draft few years ago it tells me that he is the GM in title only and that he is just bringing who he is told to get, not the players he wants. I have never seen it work this way in sports. Nor have I seen it bring a Championship to a city. Just like Gary was too loyal to players and his staff, it seems to me that Bill is to caught up in a type of player, not taking a talented player and getting the best out of him and I think it's going to back fire on him. I know Bill O'Brien wants to be Bill Belichick but you have to earn that status. I know Rick Smith will get probable get fired and blamed for the Texans inability to build a championship football team but keep in mind the structure of the teams management before you all blame Rick. Look at the other teams in this city, these teams let the GM's build teams and now we the fans are starting to see success with the Rockets and Astros . The GMs bring in the players and the coaches coach. Which is how it should be. Blame this grease fire on Bob Mcnair and the management structure of the Texans organization.
As a Bengals fan, I can relate. The Rockets are head and shoulders better than the Bengals in every facet.
You need Corrosion to answer this post. He knows the workings of the inner circle and says the talent level and cap hell the Texans seem to be perpetually in falls directly at the feet of Rick Smith. Example: Schaub extention is Smith's call.
Ratings for Pats pre-season games exceed Boston Red Sox regular season games. Boston's also a well-rounded enough sports city to not simply let one sport dominate as much over the others (but make no mistake, football is still at a very high popularity level there).
is it really fair to compare though? trades are not as common in the NFL as the NBA, where trades can make or break teams. free agency is different as well. their drafts seem somewhat similar. both have drafted franchise players (dream,yao/johnson/watt), found undrafted talent (cassell/foster) and have misses in between. i do wonder though, how many analytical type GMs are there in the NFL?
But do you extend Schaub if you get Peyton? Not saying it was the right move extending him. I have never been a Schaub fan. Just stating that one non-move in the right direction(going after Peyton) creates another failed move in the wrong direction(signing Schuab to a extension) Got to see through the fog. I can't believe it was Rick's idea to sign Schuab to a extension, when in the same vein trying to convince Gary and Bob to go after Peyton. It was maybe the only option they could agree apon
the Houston rockets are and will always be the best sports team in Houston !!!! we have REAL fans, maybe that's why we don't see a over populated arena, but hey atleast the fans that do show up are real fans !! I would say that 50% of '''Texans fans'''' are bandwagoners !!! don't know a thing about football !! probably have never even touched a football in their lives but just want to fit in ! im sure if the nba would be like the nfl, they would probably do the same with the rockets or other nba teams !
Did your mother drop you on your head when you were a baby? Again, the previous poster was claiming that football was first in every city. Again I said not in Boston/New England. For you to bring up freakin ratings for Pats per-season games leads one to believe that you don't think this is true. Which would also show that you've never spent any time in Boston, or you wouldn't be spewing this BS out of your piehole. Did I say people of Boston/New England don't like football? "But make no mistake, football is still at a very high popularity level there". NO S&!T Einstein!!! You think winning FOUR Super Bowls might have something to do with that!!
You mean the Rockets fans that can't stay in their $500 seats during the game? Or the ones that show up really late, so the team looks bad on TV with so many empty seats? Or is it the ones that sell their season tickets to Spurs, Cavs, and Heat fans?
The only franchise that has won anything and has a competent owner. bob mcnair is a racist con artist. He didnt want a black qb to be the face of his franchise (bridgewater), but is ok running out mediocre to trash white qb's year after year (fitzpatrick, mallet, hoyer). attacked arian foster when he gets hurt, cut ed reed when simply speaks the truth, and the ultimate offense is letting andre johnson suffer without competent adequate coaching and talent his entire career. wasted dre's career, smh. then hired dan reeves as a consultant to tel him that the way he was running his organization was garbage. complete moron. mcnair conned fans year after year, all he cared for was lining his pockets anually. Im glad Ive always been a Rocket man from day 1.
Damn. I knew egg ball was trash and the Texans garbage with dumb fans but to hear the owner is racist makes it more evident that this is a "sport" for a special few (not in a good way). NBA had a racist owner and kicked him out ASAP while eggball encourages this nonsense. How long has this guy been in charge?
Damn dude, chill.. Just because you've been to Boston doesn't mean you know the entire fan-base of an entire city inside out. All he said was the ratings were higher for a Pats pre-season game than a Red Sox regular season game, which backs his statement of football dominates usually in most US cities in terms of fanbase. No need to start hurling insults.
