Carter .055? Is crazy Carter was playing, but, a forum member once said that the organization had very intelligent people on our staff ( i think he said Nasa kind of people) , and that it was stupid of me to question the lineups, so, Carter playing tonight must had a reasoning because other "intelligent" minds thought so. Now, us dumb dudes, well, we question why Carter was playing and we must be wrong.
Tucker, one of the team's better hitters against good fastballs was recently optioned to triple A while a .055 hitter against good fastballs is still on the team in Carter. This is just straight up stubbornness and arrogance that the organization still feels justified in sending Carter out there. There's other trash in the lineup as well no doubt but releasing Carter would free up room for better hitters to be called up at least. Carter right now is useless and a waist of a valuable roster spot. Also, I'm thinking the Astros are one of if not the only playoff contender who have a different lineup almost every night. The only constants are Altuve and Correa. Guys are probably pressing more because no one really knows their roles on the team offensively. Perhaps the reason why Hinch shuffles the lineup so much is because no one currently outside of Altuve and Correa are good enough to cement a role/spot in the lineup. Sigh...
It wasn't good, but they mostly faced better pitching. Being shutout tonight by an average pitcher was unacceptable. It's not over though, Stros can still right their road woes.
Carter is like Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Astros. You wake up in the morning and there he is...he never leaves until the very end if we're lucky
Scott Feldman’s ERA in 7 starts since coming off the DL: 2.36 Meanwhile, Astros starting pitching in the second half has a 2.74 ERA, the best mark in the majors. Astros have been held to three or fewer runs 15 times in last 19 games, including nine in a row. Astros starting pitchers have a 2.25 ERA in their last 19 games. The Astros are 9-10 in that stretch, hitting .201. Astros have lost 29 of last 38 road games.
You think Carter will be released in 8 days? I'm kind of at the point where I'll believe that when I see it.
Oh okay, that's what I figured. No reason for him to be playing much if at all. Still feel he's been a waste of a roster spot up to this point.
You make a great point here, as you mentioned Tucker. He has struggled in the second half, but he is better than Carter
Yeah just about anyone is better than Carter now. Tucker has been struggling but I was disappointed to see him optioned because as bad as he has been lately Tucker is still probably one of the better hitters on the team. It's not saying much on a team full of crappy hitters but you need to keep all the somewhat decent hitters you can. We'll see what September brings. Have to keep banking on Cy Young performances by the pitching staff in the mean time.
Agree. I think that the real hero on this team is McCullers. He made the real change. With him we got a legit number 2 starter and the rotation that was average became good. Then VV helped and McHugh was number 4. An average rotación bésame good. Ten Feldman came back and we became very good. Now with Fiers we are great but all started with McCullers
AJ was talking after the gm on Sunday against Kershaw saying "we might have struggled early, but there's 27 outs and they're going to battle the entire game". "They're not going to get too high or too low", and "that every out counts". If they're going to continue to throw Carter out there they are basically going into that game with only 23-24 outs as the dude is just useless. I just don't see how you can do that coming down the stretch in a pennant race.
.055? they're going to make a new batting terminology in honor of carter and not in a good way. with that kind of pitching though, we will always have a chance.
C Jason Castro/Hank Conger 1B Marwin Gonzalez 2B Jose Altuve SS Carlos Correa 3B Jed Lowrie LF Preston Tucker CF Carlos Gomez RF George Springer DH Evan Gattis Tucker was sent down to keep Carter, right? When does he return?
Yup. I would love the 'stros winning every game. And yes, it was frustrating to see Feldman pitch well and not get rewarded with a win. And yes, it was frustrating to see the hitting fail again. But that all said, we were playing a first place team on the road, against a dominating pitcher who had nasty stuff. And yet we were there until the final pitch. Can't be too down in that context. Especially given the last few years. Can't wait for game 2.
