The issue is that with Fitz you have a QB that actually had been pretty decent before at one point so there was hope that BOB could turn things around for him and make him the QB he was in Buffalo that got him the big contract while cutting down on the interceptions. With Hoyer, he's never been any good. Ever. There's no "getting back to the good old days" unless he happened to be good in high school. I didn't think there was any way BOB would choose to have a worse QB situation this season than the Texans had last season but that's pretty much where we stand. Hoyer is like a poor man's Fitz that doesn't have the ability to run for cheap first downs and doesn't have an awesome beard. I do plan on letting this play out, but I just don't see any way this ends well. Having essentially no running game and no QB that can stretch defenses out with his arm sounds like a recipe for disaster. Teams will just stack the box killing the run and that pretty much stops our offense until Foster is back. If the Texans defense isn't the second coming of the 85 Bears or the 00 Ravens I just can't see how this team has an upside with Hoyer under QB. Instead of looking at 8-11 wins with Mallett, I see more like 6-9 wins with Hoyer and that really does make a big difference.
I would point out that you don't know what you are talking about, but I'm sure everyone on this forum knows that by now.
Go check out the poll: http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexan...-brian-hoyer-starting-quarterback/#12048101=0 Polls How do you feel about Brian Hoyer being named the Texans' starting QB? Hate it, have no idea what this franchise is thinking. (36%, 365 Votes) I'm OK with it. (31%, 323 Votes) Don't feel one way or the other about it. (28%, 283 Votes) Love it. He'll be great. (6%, 57 Votes) Total Voters: 1,028 LOLs.
LOL... is this the Fitz that went 6-10, or led the league in INTs? Oh wait, they were 6-10 in both of those seasons. Fitz put up pretty pedestrian numbers last season if you excluded that 6 TD outlier game... but what I was more impressed with was his .500 record as a starter (if you can call that impressive, along with only 8 INT's in 12 games... as he had not come anywhere close to those metrics as a starter in his career. Hoyer, like Fitz, is not going to be relied upon to put up high TD totals or big passing yardage (which is what got Fitz the unwarranted big contract)... he is there to run BOB's gameplan to the best of its ability, and as mistake free as possible. If he does, and they still lose, its clearly a talent issue for the entire team. If he cannot run it well, they move on. You still don't know who "he" is... till you see him in this offense. And if BOB had named Mallett the starter, while you would be signing a decidedly different tune, all of my above statements would be applicable to him as well. This is a pretty asinine and baseless statement overall... that presumes that not only is Mallett capable of leading a team to a winning record, but that he's automatically assumed to be 2 wins better than Hoyer simply based on what you've "seen" (which is basically zero on THIS team, in THIS system). And remember, the Fitz that impressed you and who was "pretty decent" had gone 4-9, 6-10, 6-10 as a starter. The biggest difference in overall wins on this team will be whether or not Foster can come back and make a difference... not these two QB's who both have a lot of weaknesses.
If BOB sent Fitzpatrick packing so he could bring in Hoyer, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he thinks he can turn Hoyer into more than just an above average QB (something he turned Fitzpatrick into for the first time in his career).
LOL, I don't really have to say anything to someone who equates a QB win loss record to their performance. It's sad that there are still people out there that don't see why that's an incredibly dumb thing to do.
Pretty sure that both eras had seasons where "realistic shots at winning a super bowl" were fulfilled. You make it seem like projections and educated guesses are some sort of sorcery. The Texans scratched, clawed, and overachieved their way to 9 wins last season. It's not silliness and stupidity to make an educated guess that the same team - minus their best offensive player (understatement), their best WR, and a QB who is somewhere between even worse and a slight upgrade to last year's bottom-of-the-barrel lot - has no shot at contending for a title.
whatever. receiving corps is worse regardless of which you think was our best wr last year. andre caught more passes in less games, and i assume his presence had a decent amount to do with opening up the field for those dog**** qb's to get the ball to hopkins downfield.
And Nuk got more yards with a lot fewer targets. More with less. Sure they forced more passes Johnson's way, but it didn't lead to much.
So Fuzzy has a higher than 80 QBrating? No, he doesn't. It's just a regular thing you can Google man. You already admitted you were wrong about the QB situation last year. And look, you're wrong again. But hey, at least you're willing to let it play out. So not all is lost.
I'm rooting for Hoyer to become great after seeing all the whining going on by the fan base. Waaaaah he's never been good. Waaaahh he's not better than Fitz. Waaaaah Mallett should start. Waaaahhh Tom Savage should start, even though he's a huge project. A progressing project but still. So many unrealistic fans out there. So much crow to prepare for y'all. Hoyer is 10-6 in the last two years starting.
I would argue that we are the deepest that we've been at the Wide Receiver Position. -Andre Johnson +Cecil Shorts, +Nate Washington, +Jaelen Strong, +Keith Mumphrey Hoyer will have the weapons but will our Offensive Line stay healthy enough to keep him upright because we have no depth. I was hoping for a big year from Xavier Su'a-Filo. He's already a bruiser in the run game, hopefully he can pass protect. Our O-line lacks depth. Our starters are solid but the guys behind him can't block anyone.
I honestly don't know which is more depressing, the Texans going with Brian Hoyer as the starter to begin the season or the fact that some people still think QB W-L record is relevant to any conversation ever or that it is indicative of QB performance. Both are incredibly sad.
