Hear hear - I took a buddy there when he was down on his luck the bill was like $300+ and I didn't think it was that much better than any other Sushi joint. It seems it is one of those deals where popularity has over ridden truth. DD
No mention for Tokyohanna? Do they suck? I haven't been to many sushi joints, but Tokyohanna didn't taste bad. Their location in Spring closed down a while ago, but it was packed with attractive women and went club-style a few nights a week. The SW Frwy location also features many off-menu "appetizers".
and when you pay a lot for something..you want to tell yourself it's better than anything else you had. i go to Aka regularly. Weeknd - happy hour all day. Oishi is okay. Need to go to kata and see how things are there. Went a couple of times a few years back. Nippon is hit or miss.
Kata Robata, for sure. Uchi is great too, but for everyday sushi, Kata takes the cake. Plus, they have other incredible dishes as well.
I liked Uchi but it is definitely overpriced. Feels like I was just paying for the atmosphere. I really need to try some other places. I been going to Miyakos lately and I do like it but I am sure there are better places. I think RA sushi is meh and I am not impressed with King Sushi either.
Uchi is phenomenal. It's not about the sushi. It's about variety. Their hot dishes are so good. Fried chicken, walu walu, hamachi nabe, etc. Love the fried milk dessert. Sitting at the sushi bar is a great experience and highly recommend. I like Aka Sushi as my go to regular spot.
For value, you really can't beat Oishii. Very decent sushi and price is great, especially during lunch time. When I just feel like grabbing something quick before a gig, I've been going to Top Sushi a lot. They have a great Reverse Happy hour that starts at 9pm with some great deals on sushi. Wish their tuna tartare would be on the happy hour pricing. My favorite thing there. If I want the really good stuff, I'd have to say Sushi Jin in the energy corridor is the way to go. I haven't found any fresher fish in houston. That blue fin tuna... better than a lot of steaks i've had in town. Melts in your mouth. And I've been told that the sushi here is as close as you can get to the "real stuff." I'm not too big a fan of the Ra's, Soma's, and other trendy sushi spots around town. I think most of it is really hype and maybe they have one or two good speciality rolls. But I prefer the more traditional places.
