I thought I spelled it out pretty well by pointing out that Mallett is younger, bigger, has a stronger arm, and doesn't have a history of failure.....thus higher upside.
a whopping 2 years younger, lack of history of failure...those are not indicative of higher upside. Stronger arm? sure
A guy with a history of failure in the league is a fairly known commodity. A guy with basically no history in the league is an unknown. If both are looking similar you take the younger guy with the stronger arm. Also, just a few years younger can make a big difference.....ask Jared Fogle.
Is a stronger arm more upsidey in BOB's offense? Seems like Brady just won a Super Bowl dinking and dunking.
He started the season behind Fitz, and then he got his chance. He looked good in the first game and then got hurt. Anyway, the deal on Mallett is that he could still become a pretty decent QB but we know what Hoyer is....he's the guy that got benched for Manziel. That's the difference in upside.
If he's such an unknown to you, why were you so certain he sucked last year? You apparently had seen enough of him to know that he was a statue, had no pocket presence, and would fail. Why would you want to put a guy like this on the field?
Mallet is more unknown. That is not the same as having more upside. High upside guys are generally not traded for conditional 7th round picks.
I didn't like his lack of mobility and his inaccuracy but he showed in an actual game that he could put a decent game together despite those things. New information changes opinions....well at least among people who matter. Is it possible that his lack of mobility and inaccuracy will cause failure? Of course, but until it happens, he still has a chance to be more than that. With Hoyer, you've seen it enough to know what to expect.
Well I'd hope that others would be open to changing their opinions based on new information....but I know not everyone is so that's why I said "people that mater"
Also, while we talk about accuracy, watching the game over again, Hoyer threw some fairly inaccurate passes tonight. Ryan Griffin made an amazing catch on what should have been an incompletion on a very short pass. Another thing is that Mallett was getting the ball out faster in order to not take sacks, that's something I didn't know about him that I learned last season. He's really good at getting it out quickly.
Quite shocking. I mean the guy can't beat out Fitzpatrick and is neck and neck with Hoyer but has incredibly upside.
I see reading comprehension still isn't your strong suit. Try reading everything over again, perhaps more slowly this time and see if you can do better.
So that raises the question of why you continue to offer absolutist conclusions of players who you've never seen play (rookie QB's is a common theme with you). That was true of Fitzpatrick too, but it didn't stop you from concluding Mallett shouldn't be given an opportunity last year.
