Harrell is a completely different type of player.

Not only that, but Morey drafts BPA

Dwight was definitely not looking like himself that year. He gutted it out because he didn't want to disappoint. His minutes and per game averages didn't look too far off from his peak but every move he made was laborious.

Also I remember distinctly Morey/McHale saying when they brought him in for his physical his body was all out of whack and unbalanced from trying to compensate for his back. His quads/calves were visibly uneven in terms of strength. The best I've seen Dwight since 2012 was playoffs 2014 and early in the '14-'15 season

Not really, if you look at what Jones does well he's an athletic guy who gets garbage baskets....Harrell is potentially a better version of that.

I think being on a bad team with arguably the worst possible head coach and scheme for a player like Dwight Howard had a lot to do with him "not looking like himself that year", probably not everything to do with it, but I'd bet more than some are giving it credit for. Also, Dwight is MUCH more reliant on athleticism than DMo is, if he could "gut it out" then I don't see why DMo should have too much of a problem. 3 point shooting is the area that will probably be most affected, if anything.

Yes really. Harrell's weakness is offense. He's not going to be an elite finisher or out up a 117 ORtg.

His strength is defense, which is Jones weakness.

I mean, you're exactly the opposite of correct. Not 50%, but 0%.

I'm sure you think that. Harrell is fairly amazing at finishing dunks at the rim, or at least he was in college, and when all you get is garbage baskets that are largely uncontested or weakly contested, you can get a really high ORtg. There's absolutely nothing special about Jones on either side of the ball, and there's reason to think Harrell would be a better rebounder and finish stronger than Jones.

Really.... You haven't had a problem with Jones being in the rotation as essentially a starter for two years? If he's as bad as you say and easily replaceable, and upgradeable then why hasn't he been upgraded yet?

No need... as much as you and Hollic preach about how horrible he is at the game of basketball, and how much he's been relied upon, I'd say your theory suggests there is dire need.

Harrell hasn't beaten Terrence Jones in the rotation yet. He's a 2nd round rookie. Again, this is fan theory that has no way of being proven.

And again this points back to Morey's roster decisions. Obviously he's not 100% sold that Harrell is an upgrade like you and Hollic are so therefore he hasn't waived or traded Terrence yet.

Again... your theory isn't a disagreement with us. Its a disagreement with Morey.

I'm not even saying he'll ever beat him in the rotation, but he's very likely your replacement. Anyway, I know you are one of Jones' biggest fans and one of the last remaining apologists for him, so I'm not trying to change your mind. You've dug in WAY too deep for that. I'm just trying to get you prepared for the inevitable.

If you can get 90% of what Jones brings to the table (wide open dunks and rebounds) from Harrell.....why pay Jones? I mean, the backup PF spot might get slightly weaker, but that's okay.

It's the same thing Morey did when he let Parsons walk and then brought in Ariza, so really your theory is the one at odds with Morey's history, not mine.

Well again your scouting report is way off. Do you even basketball bro?

TJones is an elite finisher in traffic and contested. You don't put up his numbers without having that skill.

Harrell is not that. Harrell put up a lower Ortg in college than Jones did in the NBA.

But if you want to keep saying wrong stuff because you think you're winning something, then go ahead

LOL "elite finisher" you greatly overstate Jones' competence, when you score in transition and on open dunks and layups created by others, you will look like an "elite finisher" to people who are reading raw statistics without understanding how they happened.

You could very likely swap out Jones for Harrell from day one and Harrell will score on those transition baskets and dunks and layups created by others. I really don't see why there are a few people who still overrate Jones, but it needs to stop. He's got a few things that he's pretty good at, but those things are pretty easy to replace.

There's a lot of elite finishers in traffic and contested and plenty even better than Terrence. Terrence got his finishing shot stuffed back in his face on approximately 20% of his shots in the playoffs. Look it up, plenty of finishers just as good or better than Terrence.

Terrence's Offensive Ratings his first 3 seasons in the NBA: 108, 119, 114 (117 total avg)

Terrence's Offensive Ratings his first 3 post seasons in the NBA: 89, 126, 100 (104 total avg)

    Harrell's Offensive Ratings at Louisville: 117.8, 121.4, 117.4 (119 total avg)

You couldn't be more wrong about how much of a Jones fan I am, and it just shows that you and Hollic don't really even read what I write, and just see argument, argument argument because I'm not just writing.. Great theory... you are so right... or THIS.

even if I said that, at least with Hollic, there is still probably an argument against it. The guy will argue if you told him the sky was blue.

I'm totally down to trade Jones IF IT MAKES sense. I would have LOVED to acquire Millsap back when. I was all for Bosh, and LMA signings, and all the other failed acquisitions behind the scenes that probably would have upgraded the PF spot.

Where you and I differ is that whole making sense thing. You are apparently D-Mo's personal physician and know he's going to be 100% this year. That's great that you are that confident but I am not.

No need... according to some of you guys, there is DIRE NEED based on how terrible this guy apparently is.

You are also very assured of yourself on many other things that relates to replacing Jones and what he does. My thought is that if he was so easily upgraded, why hasn't he been upgraded or replaced yet? I'm sorry for questioning things... I do that alot, and I know its hard for people to accept questions coming there way when they feel so strongly on their convictions. FYI, my parents watch FoxNews... so you know that I often get people frustrated with me, and thinking that I disagree with them on everything just because I question things that don't make sense.

I'll just say that please don't take questioning as a personal attack on your beliefs on anything.

Nobody is paying Jones right now. He's a player that does some things for your team with a one year contract, with an option to match an offer in restricted free agency... NEXT SUMMER. Some of you guys still aren't comprehending there is a whole season of value you have left with the player to take advantage of.

Why are we arguing about that headline that was taken out of context (Lowe himself explained in the podcast if you actually listened)? Nobody is paying Terrence Jones 15 million dollars right now. He's making 2 million and some change on a one year deal. That's NOT bad value for what he gives you THIS SEASON (a season for which we are trying to win it all apparently).

If we can do better than that, then lets F-ing do it. But obviously Morey does not think we can do better or he'd already have made the move.

As JVG says.... "I hear what you are saying... And I couldn't disagree more".

Different situation completely, different time, and there were many more moves that needed to be made.

The more relevant example of Morey's history that would theorize what Morey would do this year with Jones & D-Mo would be last year's acquisitions of Brewer and Prigioni.

Both were acquired as key role players at positions of need for a team trying to win.

Both players were viewed as one-year contracts essentially. Morey gave up FOUR 2nd round picks for these two players he knew, and even wanted to be one-year contract players.

Flexibility, yeah its important if you have key deals lined up in the next year. That being said, if its that important, the NEEDS for Morey would be much more focused on Ariza, Brewer, KJ etc. because they actually have guaranteed $ next Summer. D-Mo and Jones are restricted. We as fans should care less if the Rockets bring both guys back on huge contracts as long as the big move was made first (which in this scenario would be Durant most likely).

Why do you and others care so much about what Les might spend in this theoretical spending spree?

And why should we even care if he isn't matched and they played out his final year. More than likely, as I explained earlier with the Brewer and Prigioni example, Morey would have been more than willing to GIVE UP assets for a short term player that fits a position of need. The Rockets gave up nothing to get Jones on a one-year contract for a year of cheap services. Who care's if we lose him for nothing? The Rockets got a hell of a bargain for 3 years.

What is the dead-line to sign extention? And why either TJones or DMo haven't signed yet (or didn't get an offer)?

The deadline I believe is October 31st. I doubt Morey will offer either an extension because he wants the cap flexibility next summer and offering an extension now would limit that.

You still don't get it. Elite finishers don't exist everywhere. If they do, please list them

So in college, Harrell barely managed to beat out Jones in ORtg. Can he do it in the NBA? I sure hope so but second round picks usually don't. Especially when they are undersized and drafted for defense, rebounding and hustle.

I love the Harrell pick but let's be realistic.

Harrel at the rim in college 65%
Jones at the rim in the NBA 71%

Waiting for you or Bobby to post this list of elite finishers with high Ortg. Apparently there are so many players like this so it shouldn't be hard to list 10?

Don't post in this thread until you make this list.

Again i say, to argue whether Jones is good enough or not to start on a contending team would be a waste of time. He has been the starter for the past two seasons. Ahead of every other PF on the team. A contending team.

He is also the only PF on the team to score 30 points in a game.

I still like DMo as the starter but apparently I'm a hater because I think Jones is a solid role player.
