That's my suspicion as well. He so thoroughly ruined his previous moniker(s) that he needed yet another.

The numbers I used were from the government.

As far as welfare goes black people get nearly as much (within 1%) as white people but black people only make up 12% of the population.

I don't really see the point for either side. The fact is that there are a higher % of black Americans below the poverty line than whites, and as a result the distribution of welfare payments reflect that reality.

I guess people look at welfare differently. It isn't an enormous amount of money given to each person, and I don't think there should be a special stigma about it, it just means they are poor.

I suppose if the argument is that black people have decided to just not work and live off welfare, and all these hard working white people have to pay for it; then I can see the purpose of pointing out that welfare isn't specific to black people...... I just never knew that people believed that. I have always known that a higher percentage of black people were poor and thus were on welfare, but there are plenty of poor white people as well and I assumed they were on welfare as well.

Trump is the ******* special interest. His selfishness and social obtuseness pretty much exemplify why most powerfully rich are donors rather than candidates, for this or any local or state post they could actually win or do well at.

Excerpts from a good article on why Bernie does well among white working class conservatives in his home state. This is a small state in which he is personally well known and the usual multi-million dollar deceiving attack ads for the status quo can't fool those who have talked to Bernie. Bernie is a good antidote to the latest round of faux populism-- the Donald, now that the Tea Party is wearing thin. http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-po...icans-have-been-voting-bernie-sanders-vermont
    ********

If Bernie Sanders ends up being the Democratic nominee for president, and it looks more and more every day like he will be, his Republican opponent is going to have a very hard time beating him.

And that's because of all the Democratic candidates running, Bernie Sanders has the best chance of capturing Republican votes.

I've seen how Bernie does this, up close and personal.

Despite its reputation as a place filled with liberal hippies, Vermont, like most of rural northern New England, is home to a lot of conservatives.

Anyone running for statewide office there needs to win these conservatives' votes, and Bernie is great at doing that.

Back in 2000 when Louise and I (Tom Hartman)were living in Vermont, it wasn't all that uncommon to see his signs on the same lawn as signs that said "W for President."

    Seriously, I'm not kidding.

And as NPR's "Morning Edition" found out last year, some of Bernie's biggest fans are in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, the poorest and most conservative part of the state.

It's people from the Northeast Kingdom who've overwhelmingly elected Bernie to almost 20 years in Congress and two straight terms as senator, and it's people like them in the rest of the country who will probably send Bernie to the White House if he gets the Democratic nomination for president.

    So why is that?

While Americans disagree on social issues like gay marriage and abortion, they're actually pretty unified on the bread and butter economic issues that Bernie has made the core of his campaign.

In fact, a recent poll by the Progressive Change Institute, shows that Americans overwhelmingly agree with Bernie on key issues like education, health care and the economy.

As of 2012 there was 35% of the population on welfare... That's around 110 million people. Add in social security, Medicare, and unemployment that brings that number to around 150 million. Black folks make up 12% of the total population which is around 40 million... So even if half the black population was getting government benefits _ that would still leave 130 million people receiving government benefits and you can bet at least half of that number is white folks which is more than the entire black population in this country. Stats lie but numbers don't.

The average working Joe only pays 40-45 bucks a year that covers food stamps and welfare for the people in need... But they bytch about that and don't complain about corporate welfare like agricultural subsidies which goes directly to the rich... And the average Joe pays 4000-6000 a year in taxes to give to the rich.

Just the same _ I'm still waiting for a legitimate reason why black folks should sale their souls to democrats when it's obvious they don't give a F about them.

It's been provided but you can't handle the truth. Time to shift your paradigm.

Again....... a higher % of black people are on welfare than white people. That really cannot be debated. I don't even know why it is relevant other than I noticed that you arguing a point that was not entirely truthful.

People complaining about about welfare is another issue. I don't disagree that some people do not realize that there is more spent on the military, subsidies, etc than on welfare.

The federal government defines welfare as ALL entitlement programs funded through taxes... Which means not just AFDC. So yea, there is no debate.

Ask the other poster why it's relevant because he's the one who brought it up as to why black folks should support democrats.

"Where will he go next, this phantom from another time, this resurrected ghost of a previous nightmare- Chicago; Los Angeles; Miami, Florida; Vincennes, Indiana; Syracuse, New York? Anyplace, everyplace, where there's hate, where there's prejudice, where there's bigotry. He's alive. He's alive so long as these evils exist. Remember that when he comes to your town. Remember it when you hear his voice speaking out through others. Remember it when you hear a name called, a minority attacked, any blind, unreasoning assault on a people or any human being. He's alive because through these things we keep him alive."
