You have a schedule that has prevented you from seeing any games this year? They are a first place team. You should make the effort to attend as many games as possible. They have played 50+ home games. Surely you could make at least one. Oh wait, that only applies to the other Houstonians, not to you. Even though I live 1000+ miles away and also have a hectic schedule, I will have attended one more Astros game than you as of 08/28.
The Yankees (who have won 27 World Series) had attendance problems as well (even when they were playing well). In '76 Yankee stadium had a capacity of 54,028, in '77 it went up to 57,145, and in '80 it was 57,545. Attendance by yr/Record '76 25,134 (97-62) Lost in WS '77 25,964 (100-62) Won WS '78 28,661 (100-63) Won WS '79 31,722 (89-71) '80 32,437 (103-59) Lost in ALCS '81 30,175 (59-48) Lost WS '82 25,200 (79-83) '83 27,876 (91-71) '84 22,492 (87-75) '85 27,510 (97-64) '86 28,000 (90-72) '87 29,971 (89-73) '88 32,717 (85-76) '89 26,963 (74-87) '90 24,771 (67-95) '91 23,009 (71-91) '92 21,589 (76-86) '93 29,839 (88-74) '94 29,656 (70-43) '95 23,521 (79-65) Lost LDS '96 27,789 (92-70) Won WS '97 31,856 (96-66) Lost LDS '98 36,484 (114-48) Won WS So those of you who think it's just the city of Houston need to wake up. As others have pointed out not being on tv for a few yrs for a large part of the city as well as being horrible (like HISTORICALLY Bad) plays into it as well. Give it some time.
You're taking a vacation to Houston and are going to a game. Good for you You could never be more Houston than me though. 790 broadcasts all games + Computers/Internet everywhere = Astros "out-of-sight"
Nope...I'll be seeing them in Minnesota. I lived in Houston for 30+ years. Not sure what you being more "Houston" than me means. If you were more Houston, one would think that you would make an effort to go see a first place team (or any Houston team regardless of record), especially when you whine about the attendance and the fans.
No ****. I have dude on ignore but seeing you quote him made me smh. I help run a very large company and we're in the process of expanding to South America which involves travel to and from, and I travel to Chicago and back at least 4 times a month. I've still been able to attend 14 games this year. b****ing about attendance when your lazy ass doesn't even attend? JFC, freaking tard. You're not Houston, you're more like Beaumont.
You guys likely have schedules where it's easier to plan things out in advance. Not everyone has that. My down time is mainly winter and summer is my peak. I'm not going to plan my money around attending live sporting events. I've only been to 3 games between the Astros/Rockets in the last 2 years. But best believe once things get more in order, tickets will be the norm. I haven't missed more than 50 broadcasts in my 20 years of fandom.
Hmmmmm....Considering there are plenty of walk ups available for most any given game, not being able to plan in advance is not an excuse. Wait - you've only been a fan for 20 years? I've been to Colt stadium to watch the Colt .45s. Exactly how are you more Houston than me?
There's usually not enough time most days. I attended games last year when the team was worse. My job (driving) is tiresome and I'm not able plan many nights in advance unless it's later in the evening. I'm not going to games after they've already started. Most of the time I'm not even in town. Also, never said I was more Houston than you.
You can't really WATCH a game on the RADIO - hence being "out of sight." And only the hardcore fans are going to mess around with internet streams. Casual fans (which are the fans we're talking about) just want to watch the games on the damn TV like they've been doing for the last 30 years. As far as being more Houston than us, I'm pretty sure I was an Astros Buddy before you were even born. Don't make me post a pic of a 7-year old ima sitting next to Bob Watson in the Astrodome, because I'll do it!
